After successfully navigating his way to her office, he discovers that she wants to discuss a story he wrote in class. Although he struggles to remember the original story, Chip creatively shares a new tale about his snuggly, Potato, which impresses Mrs. Woolly and earns him a certificate of recognition for his imagination.
  1. Why was Chip nervous about going to Mrs. Woolly’s office?
  2. What did Mrs. Woolly want to talk to Chip about?
  3. How did Chip feel when he received the certificate from Mrs. Woolly?

Chip’s Adventure to Mrs. Woolly’s Office

Good morning, Happy Hoppers!

“Good morning, Mr. Badger-Fox!” said Chip Pug. “Principal Woolly wants to see you in her office before class,” Mr. Badger-Fox told Chip.

“Um… okay,” Chip replied. “I’ll let Mr. Diggerty know you’ll be a little late for your first lesson,” Mr. Badger-Fox added.

Chip was a bit nervous. “Nico, I’ve never been called to Principal Woolly’s office before. I wonder why she wants to see me,” Chip said.

“I’m sure it’ll be okay, Chip,” Nico reassured him. “I should get to class. Good luck, Pug pal!”

Finding the Way

Chip wondered, “But how do I get to Mrs. Woolly’s office? If Potato was here, she’d know what to do.”

Chip asked Mr. Badger-Fox, “I’ve never been to Mrs. Woolly’s office before. Can you tell me how to get there?”

“Oh, it’s very simple, little Chip,” Mr. Badger-Fox said. “Go all the way to the gym, around the corner, past the music room, turn left, and you’ll be right outside Mrs. Woolly’s office.”

“Thank you,” Chip said, and off he went. “Gym… around the corner, past the music room, turn left!” Chip repeated to himself.

Meeting Mrs. Woolly

Finally, Chip found Mrs. Woolly’s office. “Mrs. Woolly! I found you and your office!” Chip exclaimed.

“You certainly did, Chip Pug, and perfect timing. I have something important to talk to you about. Come in,” Mrs. Woolly said.

Mrs. Woolly showed Chip a story he had written. “That’s my story. I wrote it in Mr. Diggerty’s creative writing lesson,” Chip said.

“Yes, Chip. It’s so good that Mr. Diggerty showed it to me. I’d like you to read it out loud and proud to me, your principal,” Mrs. Woolly requested.

Chip’s New Story

Chip was nervous. “Oh… I’ve never read it out loud before, Mrs. Woolly,” he said.

“Well, now is your chance,” Mrs. Woolly encouraged him.

But Chip accidentally dropped the story. “Oh, Chip. Now I can’t read you my story, Mrs. Woolly,” he said sadly.

“Could you try and remember your story and tell me about it instead?” Mrs. Woolly asked.

Chip thought hard. “Hmm. Once upon a time, there was a Pug who wanted to play in a music band… but she… uh… um… Oh, what did I write next?”

Mrs. Woolly reassured him, “It’s okay, Chip, I’m sure it will come to you.”

Chip remembered another story. “Um, Mrs. Woolly, I can’t remember the story I wrote, but I do have another story I’d like to tell you.”

“Well, I’d love to hear it, Chip. Go ahead,” Mrs. Woolly said.

The Tale of Tot and Potato

Chip began, “Once upon a time, there was a teensy-tiny Pug called Tot. She wasn’t very happy because her new little teeth were pushing through her gums. It hurt a lot.”

“The only thing that cheered Tot up was cuddling her big sister Chip’s snuggly, Potato. But what nobody else knew was that Potato wasn’t just a snuggly. Potato could change into a real-life mouse who loved to play!” Chip continued.

“Potato Mouse spent the whole day caring for Tot, cheering her up… and eating her food… until Tot felt better again. The end,” Chip finished.

“Well done, Chip. What an excellent story. You have a wonderful imagination, pretending your snuggly is a real mouse,” Mrs. Woolly praised him.

A Special Award

“Is Potato the snuggly you always bring to school with you?” Mrs. Woolly asked.

“Yes, but I didn’t bring her, I mean, it, with me today. I left Potato with my sister, Tot. She’s teething, just like in the story,” Chip explained.

“And have you missed her, I mean, it, your snuggly?” Mrs. Woolly inquired.

“I did feel a little worried when I couldn’t find your office, Mrs. Woolly. I wished I had Potato then, and when I couldn’t remember the story I’d written,” Chip admitted.

“Well, I think you should be very proud of yourself. That’s why I’m awarding you this…” Mrs. Woolly said, handing Chip a certificate.

“A certificate? Wow! Thank you, Mrs. Woolly. I can’t wait to show it to my Potato after school,” Chip said happily.

“Now, off to your Happy Hopper class, Chip. Mr. Diggerty will be expecting you,” Mrs. Woolly said.

“Thank you, Mrs. Woolly!” Chip replied, heading to class with a big smile.

  • How do you think Chip felt when he was asked to go to Mrs. Woolly’s office? Can you remember a time when you felt nervous about something new? What helped you feel better?
  • Chip had to remember the way to Mrs. Woolly’s office. Have you ever had to find your way to a new place? How did you figure out where to go?
  • Chip told a story about Potato the snuggly turning into a mouse. If you could make one of your toys come to life, which one would it be and what adventures would you have together?
  1. Map Your School Adventure: Just like Chip had to find his way to Mrs. Woolly’s office, you can create a map of your school! Draw a simple map showing your classroom, the gym, the music room, and the principal’s office. Use different colors for each location and draw arrows to show the path you take to get from one place to another. Share your map with a friend and see if they can follow your directions!

  2. Story Time with a Twist: Chip had to remember and tell a story without reading it. Think of a story you know well, like a fairy tale or a favorite book. Try telling it to a family member or friend without looking at the book. Can you add your own twist to the story, like a new character or a different ending? Use your imagination just like Chip did!

  3. Imagination Station: Chip imagined his snuggly, Potato, as a real mouse. Choose one of your favorite toys or stuffed animals and imagine it comes to life. What adventures would you go on together? Draw a picture or write a short story about your adventure. Share your creation with your class and see what exciting stories your friends have imagined!

Good morning, Happy Hoppers!
Good morning, Mr. Badger-Fox! Chip Pug, Principal Woolly would like you to go to her office before class this morning, please.
Um… okay. I’ll let Mr. Diggerty know you’ll be a little late for your first lesson.
Nico, I’ve never been called to Principal Woolly’s office before. I wonder why she wants to see me.
I’m sure it’ll be okay, Chip. [school bell ringing] I should get to class. Good luck, Pug pal!
But how do I get to Mrs. Woolly’s office? If Potato was here, she’d know what to do.
Oh! [grunting] [knocking] [giggling] Um, Mr. Badger-Fox, I’ve never been to Mrs. Woolly’s office before. Please can you tell me how to get there?
Oh, it’s very simple, little Chip. Go all the way to the gym, around the corner, past the music room, turn left, and you’ll be right outside Mrs. Woolly’s office.
– Thank you.
– Um, Chip! It’s that way. [giggling] Oops! Gym… around the corner, past the music room, turn left! Whoa! [giggling] [gasping] A-ha! The gym! Around the corner… This is just like the time I had to find my way to the school office with the attendance book! [gasping] Past the music room… [sound of instruments] But where do I go now? Oh, I wish my Potato mousey was here. She’d remember the way.
– Potato?
– [squeaking] [giggling] Wait, I know that sound. Turn left!
– Mrs. Woolly! I found you and your office!
You certainly did, Chip Pug, and perfect timing. I have something important to talk to you about. Come in.
[taking a deep breath] I wanted to ask you about this.
That’s my story. I wrote it in Mr. Diggerty’s creative writing lesson.
Yes, Chip. It’s so good that Mr. Diggerty showed it to me. I’d like you to read it out loud and proud to me, your principal.
Oh… I’ve never read it out loud before, Mrs. Woolly.
Well, now is your chance.
– [Mrs. Woolly gasping]
– Careful, Chip!
– Sorry! [gasping] Mrs. Woolly!
– My story!
– Oh, Chip. Oh… Now I can’t read you my story, Mrs. Woolly.
Could you try and remember your story and tell me about it instead?
Hmm. Once upon a time, there was a Pug who wanted to play in a music band… but she… uh… um… Oh, what did I write next?
It’s okay, Chip, I’m sure it will come to you. If Potato was here, she’d help me remember, but she’s home with Tot… Oh! Tot and Potato! That’s it!
Um, Mrs. Woolly, I can’t remember the story I wrote, but I do have another story I’d like to tell you.
Well, I’d love to hear it, Chip. Go ahead.
[taking deep breath] Once upon a time, there was a teensy-tiny Pug called Tot. She wasn’t very happy because her new little teeth were pushing through her gums. [crying] It hurt a lot.
The only thing that cheered Tot up was cuddling her big sister Chip’s snuggly, Potato. [giggling]
But what nobody else knew was that Potato wasn’t just a snuggly. Potato could change into a real-life mouse who loved to play! [giggling]
Potato Mouse spent the whole day caring for Tot, cheering her up… and eating her food… [baby fussing] [crying] …until Tot felt better again.
– The end.
– [Mrs. Woolly] Well done, Chip. What an excellent story. You have a wonderful imagination, pretending your snuggly is a real mouse.
Is Potato the snuggly you always bring to school with you?
Yes, but I didn’t bring her, I mean, it, with me today. I left Potato with my sister, Tot. She’s teething, just like in the story.
And have you missed her, I mean, it, your snuggly?
I did feel a little worried when I couldn’t find your office, Mrs. Woolly. I wished I had Potato then, and when I couldn’t remember the story I’d written.
Well, I think you should be very proud of yourself. That’s why I’m awarding you this…
A certificate? Wow! Thank you, Mrs. Woolly. I can’t wait to show it to my Potato after school. [chuckling]
Now, off to your Happy Hopper class, Chip. Mr. Diggerty will be expecting you.
Thank you, Mrs. Woolly!
