In today’s lesson, students engaged in a fun activity focused on ordering flowers by height, learning to identify the tallest and shortest among them. Through a series of puzzles, they practiced critical thinking and observation skills by determining the relative heights of various flowers, reinforcing their understanding of concepts like “tallest,” “shortest,” and the importance of careful reading. The lesson emphasized the value of attention to detail when solving problems related to ordering and comparison.
  1. What does “tallest” mean when we talk about flowers?
  2. Can you name a flower that is shorter than the yellow flower?
  3. How can we find the second shortest flower among the flowers?

Welcome to the Flower Fun Adventure!

Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to have fun with flowers. We’re going to learn how to order them from the tallest to the shortest. Let’s get started!

Understanding Tallest and Shortest

Before we begin, let’s remember what “tallest” and “shortest” mean. “Tallest” means the flower is the highest or the biggest. “Shortest” means the flower is the closest to the ground or the smallest.

Let’s Solve Some Flower Puzzles!

Question 1: Which Flower is the Tallest?

Look at all the flowers. Which one is the tallest? It’s the yellow flower! It’s bigger than all the other flowers. Let’s circle the yellow flower.

Question 2: Which is the Second Shortest Flower?

This one is a bit tricky! First, find the shortest flower. It’s the red flower. Now, find the next shortest flower. The pink flower is shorter than the blue flower but taller than the red flower. So, the pink flower is the second shortest. Let’s circle the pink flower.

Question 3: Which Flower is Shorter than the Yellow Flower but Taller than the Purple Flower?

We need to find a flower that’s between the yellow and purple flowers. It’s not the red flower because that’s the shortest. It’s not the pink flower because it’s shorter than the purple flower. The blue flower is shorter than the yellow flower but taller than the purple flower. Let’s circle the blue flower.

Question 4: Which Flowers are Taller than the Purple Flower?

Let’s find all the flowers taller than the purple flower. The yellow flower and the blue flower are both taller than the purple flower. Let’s circle them!

Last Question: Which Flower is Shorter than the Pink Flower?

Look carefully. Only the red flower is shorter than the pink flower. Let’s circle the red flower.

Remember!

When you’re ordering flowers or anything else, look carefully at the picture. Read the questions slowly to understand what they are asking. Sometimes they ask for the second tallest or which flower is in between others.

Thanks for joining our flower adventure! See you next time for more fun learning!

  • Can you think of a time when you saw something really tall and something really short? What were they, and how did you know which was taller or shorter?
  • Imagine you are in a garden with many different flowers. How would you decide which flower is your favorite? Is it because of its color, size, or something else?
  • Have you ever tried to organize things at home, like toys or books, from tallest to shortest or biggest to smallest? How did you do it, and was it fun?
  1. Flower Height Hunt: Go on a nature walk with an adult and find different flowers or plants. Bring a small notebook and pencil. Measure the height of each flower using a ruler or a measuring tape. Write down the measurements and draw a picture of each flower. When you get home, try to order them from the tallest to the shortest. Discuss with your adult helper why some flowers might be taller than others.

  2. Flower Sorting Game: Gather some toy blocks or any objects of different heights. Pretend each block is a flower. Mix them up and then try to sort them from the tallest to the shortest. Once sorted, try to find the second tallest and the second shortest “flower.” You can also play this game with friends or family members and take turns sorting the “flowers.”

  3. Observation Challenge: Next time you visit a garden or park, observe the flowers and plants around you. Ask yourself questions like: Which flower is the tallest? Which one is the shortest? Are there any flowers that are the same height? Share your observations with a friend or family member and see if they noticed the same things.

Welcome to Kids Academy!

Hello everyone! Let’s open the worksheet. Don’t forget to like this video and subscribe to our channel. You can find the link to this app in the comments below.

Hello boys and girls, it’s Teacher Mike here, and today we’re going to be looking at a worksheet that asks us to order flowers from tallest to shortest. First, let’s read the directions and then we’ll get started right away. These word problems can be a bit tricky, so we’re going to have to read them really carefully.

Look at the picture of the flowers, then answer the questions by circling the right answers. First, let’s remind ourselves what “tallest” and “shortest” mean. “Tallest” means it’s the highest or furthest from the ground, and “shortest” means it’s the closest to the ground or the smallest.

Let’s get started with these word problems!

**Number one:** Which flower is the tallest?
Well, that’s easy! If we look at all of our flowers, we can see that the yellow flower is the tallest. It is bigger than all the other flowers, so let’s go ahead and circle the yellow flower.

**Number two:** Which is the second shortest flower?
Okay, this is where the word problems get a little tricky. We’re not looking for the shortest flower; we’re looking for the second shortest flower, or the next tallest flower. First, let’s find the shortest flower. The shortest flower is the red flower. So, which is the next shortest flower? The blue flower is shorter than the yellow flower but taller than the purple flower and the pink flower. The pink flower is the second shortest flower. Let’s go ahead and circle the pink flower.

**Number three:** Which flower is shorter than the yellow flower but taller than the purple flower?
We need to find a flower that’s right in between the yellow flower and the purple flower. We know it’s not the red flower because that’s the shortest. It can’t be the pink flower because that’s shorter than the purple flower. That leaves us with the blue flower. The blue flower is shorter than the yellow flower but taller than the purple flower. The blue flower is the correct answer choice.

**Number four:** Which flowers are taller than the purple flower?
We can circle all the flowers that are taller than the purple flower. The yellow flower is taller than the purple flower, and so is the blue flower. The red flower and the pink flower are shorter than the purple flower, so the blue flower and the yellow flower are the correct answers.

Let’s look at our last question: Which flower is shorter than the pink flower?
If you look carefully at the worksheet, you can see that only the red flower is shorter than the pink flower. All the other flowers are taller than the pink flower, making the red flower the only flower that is shorter.

Remember, boys and girls, when you’re ordering plants or anything for that matter, you have to look really carefully at the picture. Then you have to read the word problems even more carefully because they may be asking you about the second shortest or second tallest flower or which flower is in between others.

Thanks for watching, boys and girls! We’ll see you next time.
