In today’s lesson, we embarked on a fun learning adventure focused on understanding numbers, specifically comparing them to our magic number, 57. Through a Thanksgiving-themed maze activity, we helped a turkey navigate by identifying and choosing numbers smaller than 57, reinforcing our skills in comparison and number recognition. Great teamwork led us to successfully guide the turkey to safety!
  1. What number did we use to help the turkey?
  2. Can you name a number that is smaller than 57?
  3. What did we do to help the turkey find its way out?

Welcome to Our Fun Learning Adventure!

Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have a fun time learning about numbers. We have a special Thanksgiving-themed activity to help a turkey find its way out of a maze. Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Understanding Numbers

We are going to compare numbers to see which ones are smaller or bigger. Our magic number today is 57. We want to find all the numbers that are less than 57 to help the turkey find its way out.

Drawing a Number Line

Let’s imagine a number line. In the middle, we have the number 57. Numbers like 58, 59, and 60 are bigger than 57. But we are looking for numbers that are smaller, like 56, 55, 54, and all the way down to zero.

Helping the Turkey

Let’s start helping our turkey! We have two paths: one to 18 and one to 77. Is 77 less than 57? No, it’s bigger. But 18 is smaller, so let’s go to 18!

Next, we can go to 99 or 21. Which one is smaller than 57? 99 is too big, but 21 is just right. Let’s go to 21!

Now, we can choose between 58 and 3. Which one is smaller? 3 is smaller than 57, so let’s go to 3!

Next, we have 60 or 56. Which one is smaller? 56 is smaller, so let’s go that way!

Keep going! We can choose between 10 and 67. 10 is smaller than 57, so let’s go to 10!

Finally, we have 57 or 31. This is a bit tricky. Is 57 less than 57? No, it’s the same. So, let’s go to 31, which is smaller!

We Did It!

Hooray! We helped our turkey find its way out of the maze. Great job, everyone! Thank you for learning with us today. See you next time!

  • Can you think of a time when you had to choose between two paths or options, just like the turkey in the maze? What did you decide, and why?
  • Imagine you are creating your own number maze. What numbers would you use, and how would you help someone find their way out?
  • Why do you think it’s important to know which numbers are bigger or smaller? Can you think of a situation where this might be useful in real life?
  1. Number Hunt: Go on a number hunt around your home or classroom. Look for numbers on clocks, books, or even in the kitchen. Write down any numbers you find that are less than 57. How many can you find? Share your list with a friend and see who found the most!

  2. Number Line Hop: Create a number line on the floor using tape or chalk. Mark numbers from 0 to 60. Start at 57 and hop to numbers that are smaller. Each time you land on a number, say it out loud. Can you hop all the way down to 0? Invite a friend to join you and take turns hopping!

  3. Turkey’s Path Drawing: Draw a map showing the turkey’s path through the maze. Use arrows to show the path from one number to the next. Can you draw other paths using different numbers that are also less than 57? Share your drawing with the class and explain why you chose those numbers.

Today, we’re going to be comparing numbers, and we have a Thanksgiving-themed worksheet. This is going to be lots of fun! The directions say to help the turkey find the way out by drawing a line to connect all the numbers that are less than 57.

Let’s think about this. We’ll start by drawing a number line. In the middle of my number line, I’ll put 57.

Now, what would be the next number up from 57 that is greater than 57? That would be 58, 59, and 60. Those are all examples of numbers that are greater than 57. But we’re looking for numbers that are less than 57, which would be any number below 57, like 56, 55, 54, 53, and all the way down to zero.

So, let’s start at the turkey, who is trying to find his way out. Should we go to 18 or 77? Is 77 less than 57? No, it’s greater than 57. So, let’s look at 18. Is that less than 57? Yes! So, we’ll go to 18.

Next, we can either go to 99 or 21. Which one is less than 57? 99? Nope, that’s too big. 21? Yes, that’s smaller than 57, so we’ll go that way.

Now we can either go to 58 or 3. Which one is less than 57? Don’t get confused! 3 is less than 57, while 58 is greater than 57. So, we’ll go to 3.

Next, we have a couple of choices: 60 or 56. Which one is less than 57? 56 is less than 57, so we’ll go to 56.

Let’s keep going! We can either go to 10 or 67. 10 is less than 57, so we’ll go that way.

Now we have two more choices: 57 or 31. This one is a little tricky. We’re looking for numbers that are less than 57. Is 57 less than 57? No, it equals 57. So, we need to go to 31, which is less than 57.

Look at that! We made our way out and helped our turkey out of the maze! Great job today! Bye!
