In this lesson, we learned about ping-pong, also known as table tennis, a fun game played by two or four players who hit a small ball back and forth across a table divided by a net. The objective is to score points by making the ball land on the opponent’s side without them returning it. We also discovered some interesting facts about the game and were encouraged to try playing it for fun and exercise!
  1. What do you need to play ping-pong?
  2. How do you score a point in ping-pong?
  3. Can you think of a fun way to play ping-pong with a friend?

Let’s Learn About Ping-Pong!

Hi there, little friend! Today, we’re going to learn about a fun game called ping-pong. It’s also known as table tennis. Are you ready to have some fun? Let’s go!

What is Ping-Pong?

Ping-pong is a game where two or four players hit a small ball back and forth across a table. The table has a net in the middle, and the players use paddles to hit the ball. The goal is to make the ball go over the net and land on the other side of the table without the other player hitting it back.

How to Play Ping-Pong

To play ping-pong, you need a table, a net, a ball, and paddles. Each player stands on one side of the table. One player starts by hitting the ball over the net. The other player tries to hit it back. The ball should not touch the ground. If it does, the other player gets a point!

Fun Facts About Ping-Pong

Did you know that ping-pong balls are very light and can bounce really high? They are usually white or orange. Ping-pong is played all over the world, and there are even big competitions where the best players compete!

Try Playing Ping-Pong!

Now that you know a little bit about ping-pong, maybe you can try playing it with a friend or family member. It’s a great way to have fun and get some exercise!

Keep Learning and Having Fun!

If you enjoyed learning about ping-pong, there are many more fun games and activities to discover. Keep exploring and having fun!

  • Have you ever played a game with a ball before? What was it like, and how is it similar or different from ping-pong?
  • What do you think would happen if you tried to play ping-pong with a really big ball or a really small table? How would that change the game?
  • Can you think of a time when you had to practice something to get better at it, like the players in ping-pong? What did you do to improve?
  1. Ping-Pong Ball Bounce Experiment: Let’s see how high a ping-pong ball can bounce! Find a safe place to drop a ping-pong ball from different heights. Use a ruler or measuring tape to see how high it bounces back each time. Try dropping it from your knee, waist, and shoulder height. Which height makes the ball bounce the highest? Talk about why you think that happens!

  2. Create Your Own Ping-Pong Paddle: Use a paper plate and a craft stick to make your own ping-pong paddle. Decorate the plate with crayons or stickers to make it unique. Once your paddle is ready, try hitting a ping-pong ball with it. How many times can you hit the ball without letting it fall? Challenge a friend to see who can hit it the most times!

  3. Ping-Pong Observation Walk: Take a walk around your home or school and look for things that remind you of ping-pong. Can you find something that is round like a ping-pong ball or flat like a paddle? Share what you find with your friends or family and explain why it reminds you of ping-pong.
