Welcome to Storytime!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to Storytime with us. How are you feeling today? Are you warm and cozy at home, or are you enjoying a sunny day outside? I hope you’re having fun playing and reading lots of books!

Meet “Daddy Farty Pants”

Today, we’re going to read a funny book called “Daddy Farty Pants” by Amber Stamp and Matt Hunt. Are you ready to find out what happens? Let’s go!

Once upon a time, there was a bear named Daddy Farty Pants. He was very windy, which means he made lots of funny noises from his bottom! No matter where he was, his bottom blasts were loud and silly. But Daddy Farty Pants liked to blame others for the noises.

He would say it was the baby, the busker, or even the old bear! But he never said “sorry” or “excuse me.” One day, he met a nice teacher named Miss Lovely Bear. When he went to shake her hand, she made a loud noise, too! Daddy Farty Pants was surprised and felt a little embarrassed.

That night, he promised to be a better bear. He decided to always say “sorry” when he made a noise. Now, Daddy Farty Pants is still funny, but he remembers to be polite!

Let’s Talk About Hearts!

Now, let’s meet my new friend, Michael, in the story “Hedgehog Heart.” Michael’s heart is special, just like everyone’s heart is special. Let’s see what different hearts can be like!

Daddy’s heart is like a big bear because he gives the best hugs. Mommy’s heart is like an owl because she is so wise and loving. Grandma’s heart is like an elephant because she never forgets you. Granddad’s heart is like a cat because he is shy at first but then purrs with love.

Mr. Wilson’s heart is like a falcon, keeping everyone safe. Aunt Class’s heart is like a drooling dog, giving slobbery kisses. My sister’s heart is like a bird, singing happily. Baby Juliet’s heart is like a puppy, wanting all your love.

Some hearts are like octopuses, hugging you tight. My cousin Rachel’s heart is like a monkey, being cheeky and fun. Can you guess what Michael’s heart is like? It’s a hedgehog! Sometimes it curls up in a spiky ball, but it slowly uncurls to find love.

And my heart? It’s like a lion, roaring love to everyone! What is your heart like? Think about it and let us know!

  • What do you think about Daddy Farty Pants’ decision to say “sorry” when he makes a noise? Can you think of a time when saying “sorry” made someone feel better?
  • In the story “Hedgehog Heart,” different hearts are compared to animals. What animal do you think your heart is like and why? Can you think of an animal that reminds you of someone in your family?
  • How do you feel when you hear funny noises like the ones Daddy Farty Pants makes? Do you have any funny stories about noises that you can share with us?
  1. Heart Animal Craft: Let’s make our own heart animals! Think about what animal your heart is like. Is it a cuddly bear, a wise owl, or maybe a playful puppy? Use colored paper, scissors, and glue to create your heart animal. You can cut out a big heart for the body and smaller hearts for the ears, wings, or paws. Once you’re done, share your heart animal with the class and tell everyone why you chose that animal for your heart!

  2. Heart Matching Game: Let’s play a matching game! We’ll have cards with different animals and cards with descriptions of hearts, like “gives the best hugs” or “sings happily.” Your job is to match the animal to the heart description. For example, if you see a card with “gives the best hugs,” you might match it with a bear. This game will help us think about how different animals can represent different kinds of love and feelings.

  3. Heart Story Sharing: Think about someone special in your life. What animal would their heart be like? Draw a picture of that animal and write a short sentence about why you chose it. For example, “My mom’s heart is like a cat because she is gentle and loving.” Share your drawing and sentence with the class. This will help us understand how we can see love and kindness in different ways.

[Music] Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you feeling today? Are you warm and cozy at home, or are you having a nice summer where you are? I hope you’ve been getting lots of sunshine and playing outside, and of course, reading a lot!

Today we have “Daddy Farty Pants” by Amber Stamp and Matt Hunt. Shall we find out what this book is about? Let’s go!

“Daddy Farty Pants” was a very windy bear. It didn’t matter where he was or what he was doing; his bottom blasts were epic! And to make matters worse, Daddy Farty Pants always blamed someone else.

It was the baby! The busker! The old bear! Excuses, excuses, right? When it was really obvious, Daddy Farty Pants never said sorry or pardon or excuse me, please.

Then one day, after school, Daddy Farty Pants met a lovely new teacher, Miss Lovely Bear. “How lovely to meet you!” But as he went to shake her hand, Miss Lovely Bear let out a loud noise. Everyone heard it!

“What did you have for lunch?” Daddy Farty Pants was shocked and outraged. “How dare you!” he thought. Everyone thinks it was me, but most of all, he was ashamed.

At night, he made a promise: “Listen, kiddo, I’m going to be a very different bear from now on. I do beg your pardon; that was me.”

Daddy Farty Pants is still a very witty bear, but no matter where he is or what he’s doing, he always remembers to say sorry.

[Music] Oops, sorry! I love you! That was “Daddy Farty Pants.” That was a really fun book! My boys love this book. What is it with boys and silly jokes, by the way?

Let’s have a look at “Hedgehog Heart.” Here’s my new friend, Michael! I love Michael. His heart reminds me of something, but I don’t know what. Sometimes you know a person’s heart. For example, Daddy’s heart is a grizzly bear; he gives the biggest bear hugs. Mommy’s heart is an owl; she’s so wise with her love. Grandma’s heart is an elephant; her love never forgets you. Granddad’s heart is a cat; shy at first, but then it purrs.

Mr. Wilson’s heart is a falcon, keeping the whole class safe in the nest. Aunt Class’s heart is a drooling dog; she gives us slobbery kisses. My sister’s heart is a bird; it perches and sings up to the sky. Baby Juliet’s heart is a puppy; she wants all your love.

Some people’s hearts are octopuses; they hold you tight and are good to get tangled up in. My cousin Rachel’s heart is a monkey; she’s so cheeky to the people she loves.

Can you guess what my friend Michael’s heart is? I think I know! It’s a hedgehog. Sometimes it curls up afraid in a spiky ball, and it’s hard to get close. But slowly, it will uncurl and then forage around for pieces of love.

And my heart is a lion, roaring my love out to everyone! Hope you enjoyed “Hedgehog Heart.” What’s your heart like? Leave us a comment and tell us about your big heart!
