Alphabets Sounds Video

share us on:

In this lesson, students learn about four different digraphs: “oy,” “ai,” “ow,” and “ay,” each formed by combining specific letters to create unique sounds. Through engaging examples, such as “oyster” for “oy” and “snail” for “ai,” learners discover how these combinations enhance their reading and writing skills. The lesson encourages practice and celebrates progress, fostering a fun and supportive learning environment.
  1. What sound do the letters O and Y make when they are together?
  2. Can you think of a word that has the “ai” sound in it?
  3. What happens when you put A and Y together?

Let’s Learn with the Digraph Rap!

Hey everyone! Are you ready to have some fun with words? Let’s do the Digraph Rap together!

Meet the Sounds: Oy

First, we have the letters O and Y. When we put them together, they make the sound “oy”!

  • Oy like in oyster
  • Oy like in boy
  • Oy like in toy

Isn’t that cool? You put O and Y together, and you get “oy”!

Meet the Sounds: Ai

Next, let’s look at the letters A and I. When they come together, they make the sound “ai”!

  • Ai like in snail
  • Ai like in rain
  • Ai like in train

See how A and I make “ai”? It’s like magic!

Meet the Sounds: Ow

Now, let’s try O and W. Together, they make the sound “ow”!

  • Ow like in window
  • Ow like in snow
  • Ow like in rainbow

When O and W team up, you get “ow”!

Meet the Sounds: Ay

Finally, we have A and Y. When they join, they make the sound “ay”!

  • Ay like in gray
  • Ay like in tray
  • Ay like in spray

Put A and Y together, and you get “ay”!

Great Job!

You did an amazing job learning these sounds! Give yourself a big clap! Remember, reading and writing can be so much fun when you know your sounds. Keep practicing, and you’ll be a reading superstar!

  • Can you think of other words that have the “oy,” “ai,” “ow,” or “ay” sounds? Try to find some around your house or outside!
  • Which of the sounds we learned today is your favorite, and why? Can you make up a silly sentence using words with that sound?
  • Have you ever noticed these sounds in your favorite storybook or a song? Share with us where you heard them and how it made you feel!
  1. Sound Hunt: Go on a sound hunt around your home or classroom! Look for objects that have the “oy,” “ai,” “ow,” or “ay” sounds in their names. For example, you might find a “toy” for “oy” or a “tray” for “ay.” Write down or draw the objects you find and share them with your friends or family.

  2. Digraph Art: Create a fun art project using the digraphs you’ve learned. Draw a picture of a “rainbow” and label it with the “ow” sound. Or, draw a “snail” and label it with the “ai” sound. Use lots of colors and be creative! Display your artwork to show how digraphs can be found in everyday things.

  3. Story Time: Make up a short story using as many “oy,” “ai,” “ow,” and “ay” words as you can. For example, “The boy played with his toy on a rainy day.” Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can spot all the digraphs you used!
