Hello, friends! How are you today? Did you have a fun day? Maybe you were busy playing and now it’s time to relax and read a story. Thank you for joining us for storytime!
Today, we’re going to read a special story called “Dreams in a Jar” by Kate Staves and Karen Bunting. Let’s see what this magical story is all about!
There’s a little secret I want to share with you. I collect all my dreams and keep them in a jar! Isn’t that fun? Let me tell you about some of my dreams.
One night, I dreamt of pirate ships with big cannons. I took a shiny coin from my dream and put it in my jar. Another time, I dreamt the whole world was made of yummy food! I saved a candy wrapper from that dream.
I also dreamt about winning a race at the Olympic Games. I kept a bottle lid to remember my big win. In another dream, I visited coral castles under the sea with mermaids. I found a pretty shell to keep.
In one dream, I was in a band playing the bass guitar. I picked up some confetti from the floor to add to my jar. I even dreamt I was a pixie living in a tree, wearing a flower as a hat!
I saw ancient beasts running around in another dream and took a pebble to remember them. I also dreamt of exploring a spooky mummy’s tomb and brought back some sand.
One night, I rode a rocket ship zooming past the stars. I found a bolt from the ship to keep. I even dreamt I was a grown-up wearing a suit and took a pencil from my desk.
Some people see a jar full of things, but I see my special dreams. Each little treasure reminds me of the amazing places I’ve been and the fun things I’ve done. My dreams are safe in my jar, right under my bed.
And that’s the story of “Dreams in a Jar.” What do you do with your dreams? Do you have a special place for them too? We’d love to hear about your dreams!

Create Your Own Dream Jar: Gather some small jars or containers and encourage the children to decorate them with stickers, paint, or colorful paper. Ask them to think about a dream they had recently or a dream they would like to have. They can draw a picture or write a few words about their dream on a piece of paper and place it inside their jar. This activity helps them visualize and cherish their dreams, just like in the story.
Dream Adventure Role Play: Set up different stations in the classroom that represent various dream adventures from the story, such as a pirate ship, an Olympic race, or a coral castle. Provide props like hats, coins, or shells, and let the children role-play their own dream adventures. Encourage them to use their imagination and think about what items they would collect to remember their dream.
Dream Sharing Circle: Gather the children in a circle and invite them to share a dream they remember or a dream they wish to have. Ask thought-provoking questions like, “What would you collect from your dream to put in your jar?” or “How did your dream make you feel?” This activity encourages listening, sharing, and understanding the value of dreams.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you today? Did you have a good day? Did you have a super busy day and now you’re finally sitting down to read a book? Well, thank you for taking the time to read with us!
Today we have “Dreams in a Jar” by Kate Staves and Karen Bunting. Let’s have a look at what “Dreams in a Jar” is all about.
There’s a secret I keep that you might think is bizarre. I collect all the dreams I have and keep them in a jar. I dreamt of pirate ships and cannons firing overhead. I took one coin and put it in a jar beneath my bed. I dreamt the world was made of food, as much as you could eat. I stuffed my face and saved myself a wrapper from a sweet.
I dreamt of the Olympic Games, and guess who won first place? I kept the bottle lid so I won’t forget the race. I dreamt of coral castles filled with mermaids in the sea. I found a pretty shell and thought I’d take it home with me.
I dreamt that I was in a band and played the bass guitar. I scooped confetti from the floor and put it in my jar. I dreamt I was a pixie and lived inside a tree. I wore a flower as a hat and took it home with me.
I dreamt of all the ancient beasts that used to run and roam. I took a pebble from that place to take back to my home. I dreamt of ancient pharaohs and a spooky mummy’s tomb. I grabbed a handful of the sand and took it to my room.
I dreamed I rode a rocket ship that blasted past the stars. I kept the bolt that toppled off and put it in my jar. I dreamt I was a grown-up and had meetings in a suit. I took a pencil from my desk to add it to my loot.
People see a jar of junk; they don’t see what I see. I treasure all my bits and bobs; they mean so much to me. Trinkets from a thousand worlds, the places I have been, all the things that I have done, and all the things I’ve seen. My dreams are mine forever, and I know just where they are. I keep them there beneath my bed; I keep them in a jar.
And that was “Dreams in a Jar.” What do you do with your dreams? Do you keep them in a jar too? Leave us a comment and tell us about your dreams!
