In the “Let’s Rhyme and Move!” lesson, participants engage in a fun and interactive way to learn about rhyming words while incorporating physical activity. When two words rhyme, they perform exercises, and when they don’t, they freeze in place, promoting both literacy and movement. The lesson emphasizes the importance of exercising regularly while enjoying the playful connection between words and physical activity.
  1. What do we do when we hear words that rhyme?
  2. Can you think of two words that rhyme with “cat”?
  3. How does moving our bodies help us have fun with rhymes?

Let’s Rhyme and Move!

Hey there, friends! Are you ready to have some fun with words and exercise? Let’s get moving and learn about rhyming words together!

Get Up and Move!

When I say two words that rhyme, let’s do some exercises! But if the words don’t rhyme, we have to freeze like statues. Are you ready? Let’s go!

  • Dog, Frog – They rhyme! Let’s walk!
  • Dog, Log – They rhyme! Keep walking!

Keep Exercising and Rhyming!

Great job, everyone! Remember, when words rhyme, we exercise. When they don’t, we freeze. Exercise every day because it’s so good for you! Keep having fun with rhymes and moving your body!

  • Can you think of any other words that rhyme with “dog”? What kind of exercise would you like to do when you hear those words?
  • Why do you think it’s fun to move and rhyme at the same time? Can you share a time when you had fun moving around with your friends or family?
  • What are some of your favorite rhyming words, and can you make a little rhyme or song with them? How would you like to move when you hear your rhyme?
  1. Rhyme Detective Walk: Take a walk around your home or classroom and look for objects. Try to find two objects that rhyme. For example, if you see a “clock” and a “sock,” you’ve found a rhyming pair! Share your rhyming pairs with a friend or family member and see if they can find more.

  2. Rhyme and Draw: Pick a word and draw a picture of it. Then, think of a word that rhymes with it and draw that too. For example, if you draw a “cat,” you might also draw a “hat.” Share your drawings with the class and see if they can guess the rhyming words.

  3. Rhyming Word Hunt: Go on a rhyming word hunt in a storybook. As you read, listen for words that rhyme. When you find a pair, write them down or tell a friend. How many rhyming pairs can you find in one story?
