Welcome to Learning About Being a Good Citizen!

Hello, friends! Today, we are going to learn how to be good citizens. Being a good citizen means being kind and helpful to everyone around us. Let’s find out how we can do that!

What is a Good Citizen?

A good citizen is someone who helps keep their community clean and is nice to their neighbors. You can be a good citizen too by doing simple things every day!

Let’s Look at Some Pictures!

We have some pictures to look at. Your job is to find out which ones show good citizenship.

Picture 1

In the first picture, we see a girl holding the door open for someone else. In another picture, a girl is drawing on a building. Which girl is being a good citizen? Yes, the girl holding the door open is being polite and helpful. Good citizens do not draw on things that aren’t theirs.

Picture 2

Next, we see one boy pushing someone and another boy sharing his candy. Can you spot the good citizen? That’s right! The boy sharing his candy is being kind. Pushing others is not nice and does not show good citizenship.

Picture 3

Finally, we have a picture of a girl throwing trash in the garbage can and a boy throwing trash on the ground. Which one shows good citizenship? If you picked the girl throwing trash in the garbage can, you are correct! Good citizens help keep their communities clean.

Great Job!

You’ve done an amazing job learning about being a good citizen. Remember, being kind and helpful makes the world a better place. Keep up the great work!

Thank you for learning with us today. See you next time!

  • Can you think of a time when you helped someone, like holding a door open or sharing something? How did it make you feel?
  • What are some ways you can help keep your community clean, just like the girl who threw trash in the garbage can?
  • Why do you think being kind and helpful, like the boy sharing his candy, is important for everyone in your neighborhood or school?
  1. Neighborhood Helpers: Take a walk around your neighborhood with a grown-up. Look for ways people are being good citizens. Can you see someone picking up trash, helping a neighbor, or being kind? Draw a picture of what you saw and share it with your class. Talk about how these actions help make your community a better place.

  2. Kindness Jar: Create a “Kindness Jar” at home or in your classroom. Every time you do something kind or helpful, write it down on a small piece of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the week, read all the notes together and celebrate the good citizenship actions you have done. Discuss how these actions made you and others feel.

  3. Role Play: With a friend or family member, act out different scenarios where you can show good citizenship. For example, pretend you are at a park and see trash on the ground. What would you do? Or imagine you see someone who needs help carrying something heavy. How can you help? Talk about why these actions are important and how they make a difference.
