What’s in the Rainforest?

The rainforest is a magical place full of life. It rains every day, making it the wettest forest on Earth. There are lots of green trees and many animals. Some animals live high up in the trees and never come down because all the food they need is right there!

Animals of the Rainforest

Let’s meet some of the animals:

  • The sloth can hang upside down from a tree. Can you hang upside down?
  • The chameleon has a long tongue. Can you stick out your tongue?
  • The frog eats bugs and small insects. Do you eat bugs?
  • Monkeys love to eat bananas and other fruits. Do you like bananas?
  • The turtle has a hard shell on its back. Do you know why?

  • Imagine you are a toucan waking up in the rainforest. What sounds might you hear, and what other animals might you see around you?
  1. Rainforest Animal Movements: Let’s pretend to be rainforest animals! Can you move like a sloth, slowly and carefully? How about jumping like a tree frog? Try swinging your arms like a monkey. Ask your friends or family to join you and see who can come up with the most creative animal movement!

  2. Rainforest Sound Hunt: Close your eyes and imagine you are in the rainforest. What sounds do you hear? Birds chirping, rain falling, or monkeys chattering? Now, go on a sound hunt around your home or school. What sounds can you find that remind you of the rainforest? Share your discoveries with your classmates.

  3. Rainforest Observation Walk: Take a walk outside with a grown-up and look for things that remind you of the rainforest. Can you find something green like the trees? Or maybe a small creature like a bug or a bird? Draw a picture of what you find and share it with the class. How is it similar or different from the rainforest animals we learned about?
