Hi there! I’m Ryan, and I’m Craig. Today, we’re going to read a fun book called “Happy Dreamer” by Peter H. Reynolds. Are you ready to get happy and dreamy with us?
In the story, we meet a happy dreamer. This dreamer is really good at dreaming all kinds of dreams! There are daydreams, big dreams, little dreams, and even creative dreams. Sometimes, it’s hard to know what to do or what we’re good at, but that’s okay!
Sometimes, people tell us to sit still and be quiet, but our dreams want to fly! When we hear music, we might want to dance. Do you like to dance when you hear music?
There are times when we are quiet dreamers. We sit still and listen to our thoughts. Can you see shapes in the clouds? Maybe a horse or a dragon?
Other times, we are loud dreamers! We might shout or sing, even if it’s just in our heads. Have you ever been a loud dreamer?
We can be colorful dreamers, painting our own paths with surprises everywhere. Even when it’s dark, we can still dream with our ears, eyes, heart, and mind. Sometimes, our dreams get a little messy, but that’s okay because it’s our creative chaos!
Sometimes, we need to think outside the box to feel free and happy. When we do, we find amazing and delightful dreams waiting for us.
There are so many ways to be a happy dreamer! We can be ice cream happy, sunshine happy, music happy, or dance happy. We can be silly, kind, or even a little crazy. The best way to be a happy dreamer is to just be you!
Are you a sunny dreamer, a love dreamer, or maybe a family happy dreamer? There are so many ways to dream and be happy. Remember, being a happy dreamer means being yourself!
Thanks for joining Story Time with Ryan and Craig. We hope you enjoyed “Happy Dreamer” by Peter H. Reynolds. Keep dreaming and being happy!
What are you dreaming about today?
Dream Collage: Gather some old magazines, colorful paper, scissors, and glue. Ask the children to cut out pictures or draw things that represent their dreams. It could be places they want to visit, things they want to do, or people they admire. Help them create a collage on a piece of paper. Once finished, encourage each child to share their dream collage with the group and explain why they chose those images.
Cloud Watching Adventure: Take the children outside on a nice day and have them lie on the grass to watch the clouds. Ask them to use their imagination to see different shapes and figures in the clouds. Encourage them to describe what they see and what kind of dreamer they think the cloud might be. For example, a cloud shaped like a dragon could be a “brave dreamer.”
Dream Dance Party: Play different types of music and ask the children to express their dreams through dance. They can be quiet dreamers with slow, gentle movements or loud dreamers with energetic, fast-paced dancing. After the dance, ask them how each type of music made them feel and what kind of dreams it inspired.

Hey, I’m Ryan and I’m Craig, and welcome to Story Time! Today’s book is “Happy Dreamer” by Peter H. Reynolds.
Let’s get happy or dreamy!
“Happy Dreamer” by Peter H. Reynolds.
I am a happy dreamer. I’m really good at dreaming—daydreams, big dreams, little dreams, creative dreams. Sometimes I have trouble figuring out what I want to do or what I’m good at.
Yeah, sometimes the world tells me to sit still, be quiet, pay attention, focus. But my dreams have a mind of their own! Sometimes my mind just takes flight. I hear a beat, and I want to move.
Did you hear that?
Sometimes I’m a quiet dreamer when I make time to stay still and hear myself think, to let go and see what takes shape.
Do you see that horse in the clouds?
Well, I think you see what you want to see.
Sometimes I’m a swing-high dreamer, way up high beyond the clouds, so high I can touch the sky. I can also be a loud dreamer—shouting at the top of my lungs, even if I’m just loud inside my head.
Okay, yeah, maybe a bit too loud.
How about this: sometimes I’m a colorful dreamer, painting my own path with surprises at every turn. I can dream even when the lights are out.
I’m all ears, eyes, heart, and mind. I have so many dreams, and it can get messy. Creative chaos! Cleaning up hides my treasures. If you make me, I will put my things away, but then there is less of me to show.
These are the moments I feel alone.
Why are we boxing together instead of being alone?
Yeah, I want to be alone in my box, please.
Okay, you leave. I’m going to think outside the box.
Whoa, I’m free!
And yet, I always find a way back, plunging into amazing, delightful happy dreams.
I’m really good at being me—a dreamer. Surprising, caring, funny, gentle, smart. And when I tumble back to earth, I know…
Dreamers have a way of bouncing back and moving forward. There are so many ways to be a happy dreamer.
What kind of dreamer are you?
Ice cream happy, sunshine happy, make-a-difference happy, nap happy, music happy, dance happy, useful happy, catch happy, kindness happy, silly happy, foot-stomping happy, wings dreamer, royal dreamer, thinking dreamer, sweet dreamer, sunny dreamer, floating dreamer, love dreamer, crazy dreamers, civic dreamer, secret dreamer, dizzy happy, hard work happy, celebration happy, laugh happy, discovery happy, family happy, alone happy, friends happy, ocean happy, dreamy dreamer, team dreamer, vision dreamer, goal dreamer, stage dreamers, night dreamer, daydreamer, big dreamer, fierce dreamers—all here!
Whoa, that’s a lot of ways to be a happy dreamer or a dreamer who is happy!
But the best way to be a happy dreamer is just to be you, which is why this book is dedicated to you—yes, you!
