Once upon a time, there was a story about three little pigs and a big bad wolf. This story has been told many times, but today, we’re going to hear a new version with a wolf named Frank Underwolf and three very clever pigs!
In this story, Frank Underwolf wants to blow down the houses of three pigs. Each pig has built a house using different materials: straw, sticks, and bricks. Straw is the weakest, and bricks are the strongest. Frank is very confident as he walks up to the first pig’s straw house, ready to blow it down.
Frank Underwolf walks up to the straw house and tries to scare the little pig inside. The pig knows Frank is a tricky wolf and won’t let him in. Frank says, “I’ll huff and puff and blow your house down!” With a big blow, he knocks down the straw house easily. This shows us that straw is not very strong.
This part of the story teaches us about building materials. Straw is easy to find and use, but it’s not strong enough to stand up to strong winds or pressure. Bricks, on the other hand, are much stronger and can protect us better.
After blowing down the straw house, Frank goes to the second pig’s house made of sticks. Just like before, the pig won’t let him in. Frank says his famous line again and blows down the stick house. Sticks are stronger than straw, but still not strong enough to stop Frank.
The stick house falling down reminds us how important it is to choose strong materials when building. Engineers and architects think about how much weight a building can hold and how it can stand up to things like wind and rain.
Finally, Frank reaches the last house, which is made of bricks. He thinks he can blow it down too. But the pigs have a surprise! The brick house is actually a house of cards. Frank is very confused and doesn’t know what to do!
The pigs’ trick shows us that being smart and having a good plan can be better than just using strength. Sometimes, thinking carefully can help us solve problems in a clever way.
In this new version of “The Three Little Pigs,” we learn about being strong, smart, and choosing the right materials. Frank Underwolf learns not to underestimate the pigs, and we see how clever thinking can win the day. The pigs show us that sometimes, the best way to win is to think ahead and use our brains!
Build Your Own House: Gather some simple materials like straws, sticks, and small blocks or LEGO bricks. Try building small houses with each material. Which one is the easiest to build? Which one is the strongest? Test your houses by gently blowing on them or using a small fan. Discuss why some houses stand up better than others.
Material Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around your home or classroom to find different materials. Look for items made of wood, plastic, metal, and fabric. Talk about what each material is used for and why it might be chosen for that purpose. How do these materials compare to straw, sticks, and bricks?
Problem-Solving Pigs: Imagine you are one of the pigs and Frank Underwolf is coming to your house. Think of a clever plan to keep your house safe without using bricks. Draw a picture or write a short story about your plan. Share your ideas with your classmates and see how many different strategies you can come up with!
