How My School Teachers Influenced Me – Smarter Every Day 284

Hey there, it’s Destin! Welcome back to Smarter Every Day. I recently had the chance to make a special video to thank some of my teachers, and it turned out to be an amazing experience. Some of my teachers even appeared in the video, and it made me realize how much they have impacted my life. I felt really grateful to have the opportunity to thank them.

It’s important to recognize our teachers because they play a huge role in shaping who we become. If you haven’t thanked your teachers yet, I highly recommend doing so. It feels great for both you and them. We are all shaped by our teachers, after all. So, let me share the video I made.

Thanking My Teachers

My three siblings and I were raised by our hardworking and loving parents, Darryl and Terry Sandlin. They taught us a lot, but we also learned so much from the Morgan County School system and its wonderful teachers. I want to take this moment to express my gratitude for some specific things they taught me.

Early School Years

First, I want to thank Miss Maria Yung, my kindergarten teacher. She taught me how to listen, which is a big part of learning. I remember storytime and how we had to be quiet. Thank you for that, Miss Yung.

Next, my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Cowart, was so patient with me while I learned to tie my shoes. It was more stressful than you might think! I also learned how to speak in front of a group during show and tell, which was a huge lesson for me. Thank you, Mrs. Cowart.

Ms. Mayfield, my second-grade teacher, ran a tight ship but taught me that if you work hard, you get to play hard. I still believe that today. Thank you, Ms. Mayfield!

Mrs. Tepper’s third-grade class was incredible. She created photo albums for her students, which was so special. She taught me about self-control, and I learned a valuable lesson about keeping control of myself in a group. Thank you, Mrs. Tepper.

Middle School Memories

I want to thank my fourth-grade teacher, the late Mr. Keenan, who took great interest in how I held my pencil. His attention to detail influenced me greatly. Thank you, Mr. Keenan.

My fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Easley, remembered me fondly and shared how I was always confident and curious. Thank you, Mrs. Easley.

During my junior high years, I had fantastic teachers who really invested in us. Mrs. Wallace taught me algebra and even took us skiing, which was a big deal for me. Miss Teague and our TAG class taught us about injustice in a memorable way. Thank you both!

High School Highlights

In high school, I had many influential teachers. Ms. Morrow helped me with summer reading, and I loved learning from her. The education I received was unbelievable. Miss Hodges pushed me to think critically and invited me to participate in Science Olympiad, which changed my life. Thank you, Miss Hodges.

One of the most influential people in my life was my 11th and 12th-grade English teacher, Ms. Russian. She made me write every day and helped me learn how to communicate effectively. Thank you, Ms. Russian.

Reflecting on My Teachers

As I look through my yearbooks and see all the teachers who invested in my life, I feel grateful. They challenged me when I needed it and guided me in ways that shaped who I am today.

So here’s my challenge to you: go get your yearbooks and think about what your teachers did for you. Share a specific story about a teacher who made a difference in your life. Use your phone to record a message for them and hashtag it #ThankYourTeacher. It feels good to express your gratitude.

Thank you for watching this with me. I’m grateful for my teachers. Have a great day!
