Drawing a dragon is super fun and lets you use your imagination! In this guide, we’ll show you how to draw your very own dragon with cool features like wings, claws, and a tail. Grab your drawing tools, and let’s get started!
Start by drawing a big oval or circle at the top of your paper. This will be the dragon’s head. Make it big enough to give your dragon a strong face.
Next, let’s draw the mouth. Sketch a “W” shape at the bottom of the circle. Add sharp teeth by drawing a “V” shape on each side of the mouth. To show the mouth is open, draw a “U” shape between the teeth. You can add a tongue inside and color the top part, leaving the bottom white.
For the eyes, draw two ovals, one on each side of the head. Inside each eye, add a smaller circle or oval for highlights, leaving it white to make the eyes look shiny. Don’t forget to draw two small ovals for the nostrils.
Now it’s time to add some horns. Draw a curve that goes up and then curves back down on each side of the head. You can add texture to the horns by drawing little lines or curves.
To draw the arms, start with two diagonal lines coming down from the head. Since your dragon will be sitting, curve the lines around and back up, stopping before reaching the head. Repeat this shape on the other side to match.
For the claws, draw a “V” shape in the middle of each arm and repeat this on both sides.
Connect the two arms with a curved line at the bottom to form the dragon’s belly. You can also add two lines between the arms for extra detail.
Since the dragon is sitting, draw the back legs sticking up. Use a “C” shape for one leg and a backward “C” for the other. Add claws to the back feet just like you did for the front.
To draw the wings, start with a curve that comes up next to the head, then draw a large curve that comes down. Connect the wing to the body with upside-down “U” shapes. Repeat this for the other wing and add curves inside for texture.
For the tail, draw a curve that extends out to one side and then curves back towards the foot.
Draw spikes on the dragon’s head and down its back and tail. Use upside-down “V” shapes to create these spikes.
To finish off your dragon, draw a cloud underneath it. You can create a bumpy line around the cloud to give it a fluffy appearance.
Now that your dragon is complete, it’s time to add color! You can use markers, colored pencils, or crayons. Feel free to choose any colors you like for your dragon and its surroundings.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully drawn and colored your own dragon. Remember, there are no rules in art, so feel free to add your own details, like more dragons flying in the background or a city below. Enjoy your creative journey!
Create Your Own Dragon Story: Now that you’ve drawn your dragon, think about where it might live and what adventures it might have. Write a short story or draw a picture about a day in the life of your dragon. What does it eat? Does it have any dragon friends? Share your story or picture with your family or classmates!
Dragon Observation Walk: Go for a walk in your neighborhood or a nearby park. Look for things that remind you of dragon features, like a tree branch that looks like a dragon’s tail or a cloud shaped like a dragon’s wing. Take pictures or draw what you see. When you get back, compare your findings with your dragon drawing. How are they similar or different?
Design a Dragon Habitat: Imagine where your dragon would live. Would it be in a cave, a forest, or a mountain? Use materials like clay, paper, or building blocks to create a small model of your dragon’s home. Think about what your dragon needs to be comfortable and safe. Present your habitat to your family or class and explain why it’s perfect for your dragon.
