How to Draw a Backpack Monster: A Fun Guide

Let’s have some fun drawing a special backpack that turns into a monster when you open it! This backpack will look like it’s munching on your school supplies and homework. Grab your drawing tools, and let’s get started!

What You Need

  • Drawing paper
  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Scratch paper (to keep your table clean)

Step 1: Get Your Paper Ready

Fold the Paper: Take the top of your paper and fold it down to meet the bottom. Press the fold in the middle and out to the corners.

Create the Flap: Fold the top part back up to the top edge and press it down again.

Flip and Repeat: Turn your paper over and do the same fold again. This will help you later when you unfold it.

Step 2: Draw the Backpack Shape

Outline the Backpack: Draw a big upside-down U-shape starting at the top of your paper and curving down to the other side.

Connect the Bottom: Draw a curve at the bottom to close the backpack shape.

Add Details: Draw a crescent shape at the top to make it look 3D and a pocket for the monster’s mouth.

Step 3: Add Features and Straps

Draw the Pocket: Make a curve for the top of the pocket and connect it to the sides. Add a line at the bottom for depth.

Include a Zipper: Draw a small triangle to show the zipper.

Add Side Pockets: Draw rectangles on both sides of the backpack.

Draw the Handle: Create an upside-down U-shape at the top.

Create the Straps: Draw curved lines from the handle down to the pockets on both sides.

Step 4: Bring Your Backpack to Life

Add Eyes: Draw two circles for eyes and add little highlights to make them cute.

Open the Paper: Flatten the paper to see the full backpack design.

Step 5: Draw the Monster’s Teeth

Top Row of Teeth: Draw a line in the middle and make several teeth using curves and straight lines.

Bottom Row of Teeth: Do the same for the bottom row, making sure they look like the top row.

Step 6: Fill the Backpack with Supplies

Draw a Pencil: Make two vertical lines and connect them with an upside-down V at the top.

Add Crayons: Draw several crayons using vertical and horizontal lines for the tips.

Include a Paintbrush: Draw two vertical lines for the handle and an S-curve for the bristles.

Add a Book: Sketch a longer rectangle for the book and add diagonal lines for a 3D look.

Draw Paper and a Ruler: Add lines for sheets of paper and a rectangle for the ruler.

Step 7: Finalize the Backpack Design

Draw the Mouth’s Back: Create lines to show the back of the mouth.

Connect the Straps: Draw the inside and outside of the straps, adding buckles for detail.

Step 8: Color Your Creation

Now that your backpack monster is ready, it’s time to add color! You can use the colors you saw in the video or pick your own to make it unique.

Conclusion

Great job! You’ve drawn a backpack monster that can “eat” your homework. Feel free to add more fun details, like a lunch or other cool items inside. Enjoy your drawing and remember to have fun being creative!

  • What kind of monster would you like your backpack to turn into, and why? Can you think of any special features it might have?
  • Have you ever imagined your school supplies coming to life? What would they say or do if they could talk?
  • If you could design a backpack that could transform into anything, what would it be, and how would you use it in your daily adventures?
  1. Monster Backpack Story: Imagine your backpack monster comes to life! Write a short story or draw a comic strip about an adventure your backpack monster might have. Think about where it would go, what it would do, and who it might meet. Share your story or comic with your family or friends.

  2. Backpack Monster Hunt: Go on a hunt around your house or classroom to find items that could fit inside your backpack monster. Make a list or draw pictures of these items. Think about how your backpack monster would “eat” them and what it might say if it could talk. Discuss with a friend or family member what other items could be added to your backpack monster.

  3. Create a Monster Family: Use the same drawing steps to create a family of backpack monsters. Each family member can have different features, like different eyes, teeth, or colors. Give each monster a name and think about their personalities. What makes each one special? Share your monster family with your class or display them at home.
