Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a fun character from the Mario games called a Blooper. Bloopers look like cute little squids, and they’re easy to draw using simple shapes. So, grab some paper and a marker, and let’s start drawing!
First, let’s draw the Blooper’s eyes. Draw two big circles on your paper. One circle should be on the left, and the other on the right, with a little space between them. Inside each big circle, draw a smaller circle and color it in. These are the Blooper’s eyes!
Now, let’s make the face around the eyes. Start by drawing a curve above the left eye, going up in the middle, and then down below the eyes. Do the same on the right side. Connect the top of this curve to the bottom with a rounded rectangle shape. Now your Blooper has a face!
Next, we’ll draw the Blooper’s body and tentacles. Draw an upside-down “V” shape at the bottom of the face. This is where the tentacles will start. From the middle of the “V,” draw two diagonal lines going down. Curve the bottom of each line and then curve them back up, stopping just under the eyes. These are the first two tentacles!
Let’s add more tentacles! Draw a big curve from the top of the “V” down to the body. Make sure there’s space between the eyes and the tentacles. Add another tentacle on each side by drawing a curve that goes out and then back in with a rounded tip.
To finish the Blooper’s body, draw diagonal lines at the top to give it a nice shape. Then, connect these lines to the body with a smooth curve. Now your Blooper looks complete!
It’s time to color your Blooper! Use black for the inside of the eyes. Add some light gray shading around the body to make it look three-dimensional. Take your time and have fun with the colors!
Great job! You’ve drawn and colored your very own Mario Blooper. We hope you had fun with this drawing activity. Keep practicing, and we can’t wait to see what you draw next!
Squid Observation Walk: Take a walk to a local aquarium or watch a short video about real squids. Observe their shapes, colors, and how they move. Discuss with a friend or family member how the Blooper you drew is similar to or different from real squids. What did you notice about their tentacles and eyes?
Create Your Own Sea Creature: Using the steps you learned to draw a Blooper, invent your own sea creature! Think about what shapes you can use to create its body, eyes, and tentacles. Give your creature a name and share your drawing with the class. What makes your creature special?
Color Mixing Experiment: Gather some crayons or colored pencils and experiment with mixing colors. Try to create different shades of gray like you used for shading your Blooper. What happens when you mix black with white? Can you create a new color for your Blooper’s body?
