How to Draw a Blue Marlin: A Fun Guide

Drawing a blue marlin is a fun and exciting activity! Let’s learn how to draw this amazing fish step by step. Get ready to create your own beautiful picture of a blue marlin!

Materials Needed

Before we start, make sure you have these materials:

  • Drawing paper
  • Markers in different colors
  • Coloring supplies

Step 1: Draw the Eye

Let’s begin by drawing the marlin’s eye. Find the middle of your paper and go a little towards the top. Draw a small circle and color it in to make the eye.

Step 2: Create the Mouth

Now, draw the mouth just below the eye. Start with a curve that goes up, then draw a long line going to the left. Finish the mouth with a shorter curve going down, adding a little curve at the end for detail.

Step 3: Outline the Top of the Body

From the end of the mouth, draw a line that curves over the eye. When you reach the eye, curve it up and around to make it look like the marlin is jumping out of the water.

Step 4: Draw the Bottom of the Body

Start at the bottom of the mouth and curve the line up a bit, then down. Connect this line to the one you drew before to form the marlin’s body.

Step 5: Add the Tail

Keep drawing the body by curving into the tail. Connect the body with a small curve to finish this part.

Step 6: Draw the Sail

Now, let’s add the marlin’s sail. Draw a small curve going up to the right, then bring it down into the body. You can add little zigzag lines for texture.

Step 7: Add Details to the Mouth

Draw a small line on the mouth that curves up, like a mustache or hook shape.

Step 8: Draw the Gills

For the gills, draw a backward “C” shape coming out from the body, curving back towards the eye. Add another gill below it, just like the first one.

Step 9: Create the Side Fins

Draw the side fins by making one fin go to the left and another below the gill curving to the right. These fins look like wings, so you can add a little bump at the end before connecting them back to the body.

Step 10: Add Bottom Fins

Draw a bottom fin going down, and add a smaller fin behind it. You can also add another fin higher up, using diagonal lines and zigzag patterns for detail.

Step 11: Draw the Tail Fan

For the tail fan, draw a curve going up and to the left. Do the same for the bottom of the tail fin, making sure both sides look the same. Connect the top and bottom with a thin line.

Step 12: Color Your Blue Marlin

Now it’s time to color your drawing! Use these colors for a realistic look:

  • Main blue color
  • Lighter blue for stripes
  • White-yellow for the sides
  • Darker blue for the inside of the mouth
  • White colored pencil for highlights

Conclusion

Great job! You have drawn and colored your blue marlin. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and keep practicing. Every drawing is special because it’s unique. Enjoy your artistic journey!

  • What was your favorite part of drawing the blue marlin, and why did you like it? Can you think of another animal you would like to draw using similar steps?
  • Have you ever seen a real fish like a blue marlin, maybe in a book or at an aquarium? How did it look, and what did you notice about it?
  • When you color your blue marlin, what colors do you think would make it look the most exciting? Why do you choose those colors?
  1. Marlin Observation Walk: Take a walk to a local aquarium or watch a nature documentary about marine life. Observe the different fish and their features. Can you spot any fish that look like the blue marlin you drew? Discuss with your friends or family how these fish move and what makes them unique.

  2. Create a Marlin Habitat: Using a shoebox or a small container, create a mini ocean habitat for your blue marlin drawing. Use blue paper for water, add sand or small pebbles for the ocean floor, and include other sea creatures made from clay or paper. Think about what a marlin might need to survive in the ocean.

  3. Color Mixing Experiment: With the help of an adult, experiment with mixing different shades of blue using paints or colored pencils. Try to create the main blue color, lighter blue for stripes, and darker blue for the inside of the mouth as described in the drawing guide. Notice how mixing colors can create new shades and how these can be used to add depth to your drawings.
