Drawing a blue marlin is a fun and exciting activity! Let’s learn how to draw this amazing fish step by step. Get ready to create your own beautiful picture of a blue marlin!
Before we start, make sure you have these materials:
Let’s begin by drawing the marlin’s eye. Find the middle of your paper and go a little towards the top. Draw a small circle and color it in to make the eye.
Now, draw the mouth just below the eye. Start with a curve that goes up, then draw a long line going to the left. Finish the mouth with a shorter curve going down, adding a little curve at the end for detail.
From the end of the mouth, draw a line that curves over the eye. When you reach the eye, curve it up and around to make it look like the marlin is jumping out of the water.
Start at the bottom of the mouth and curve the line up a bit, then down. Connect this line to the one you drew before to form the marlin’s body.
Keep drawing the body by curving into the tail. Connect the body with a small curve to finish this part.
Now, let’s add the marlin’s sail. Draw a small curve going up to the right, then bring it down into the body. You can add little zigzag lines for texture.
Draw a small line on the mouth that curves up, like a mustache or hook shape.
For the gills, draw a backward “C” shape coming out from the body, curving back towards the eye. Add another gill below it, just like the first one.
Draw the side fins by making one fin go to the left and another below the gill curving to the right. These fins look like wings, so you can add a little bump at the end before connecting them back to the body.
Draw a bottom fin going down, and add a smaller fin behind it. You can also add another fin higher up, using diagonal lines and zigzag patterns for detail.
For the tail fan, draw a curve going up and to the left. Do the same for the bottom of the tail fin, making sure both sides look the same. Connect the top and bottom with a thin line.
Now it’s time to color your drawing! Use these colors for a realistic look:
Great job! You have drawn and colored your blue marlin. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and keep practicing. Every drawing is special because it’s unique. Enjoy your artistic journey!
Marlin Observation Walk: Take a walk to a local aquarium or watch a nature documentary about marine life. Observe the different fish and their features. Can you spot any fish that look like the blue marlin you drew? Discuss with your friends or family how these fish move and what makes them unique.
Create a Marlin Habitat: Using a shoebox or a small container, create a mini ocean habitat for your blue marlin drawing. Use blue paper for water, add sand or small pebbles for the ocean floor, and include other sea creatures made from clay or paper. Think about what a marlin might need to survive in the ocean.
Color Mixing Experiment: With the help of an adult, experiment with mixing different shades of blue using paints or colored pencils. Try to create the main blue color, lighter blue for stripes, and darker blue for the inside of the mouth as described in the drawing guide. Notice how mixing colors can create new shades and how these can be used to add depth to your drawings.
