How to Draw a Carousel: A Fun Guide

Drawing is super fun, especially when you can do it with friends! Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a carousel with cute horses. So, grab your markers and paper, and let’s start drawing!

Step 1: Draw the Ground and Platform

First, let’s draw the ground. Make a straight line across the bottom of your paper. This is where our carousel will sit. Now, draw the platform. Make two short lines going up on the left and right sides, then connect them with a line on top. It should look like a rectangle. Add another layer by drawing two more short lines and connecting them with a straight line. Now, it looks like a cake!

Step 2: Draw the First Carousel Horse

Let’s draw our first horse! Start with a small dot for the eye, a little to the left and high up. Draw a U-shape above the eye for the horse’s face. Then, draw the back of the horse’s head and neck, followed by a line for its back. Draw a skinny U-shape for the front leg and do the same for the back leg. Add small lines for ears and draw a wiggly line for the tail. Don’t forget the mane!

Step 3: Add More Horses

Now, let’s add two more horses, one on each side of the first horse.

Horse Facing Forward

For the horse looking at you, draw a U-shape for the head and a line on top. Add nostrils and a horn if you want. Draw two lines for the body and curves for the legs. Add the mane and tail!

Horse Facing Away

For the horse facing away, draw an upside-down U for the back of the head. Add ears and connect the U for the body. Draw the legs like before and finish with the mane and tail.

Step 4: Draw the Carousel Top

Now, let’s draw the top of the carousel. Draw a line across the top of the horses. Add two short lines on each side and connect them. Split the shape in the middle and draw curves down to each side. Do the same on the right side to make it look even.

Step 5: Add the Carousel Poles

Time to draw the poles! Draw a line from the top of the carousel down through each horse to the platform. Make the line thicker by drawing another line next to it. Do this for all the horses.

Step 6: Final Touches

To make your carousel look even better, add diagonal lines in the center part for more detail.

Step 7: Color Your Carousel

Now, it’s time to color your carousel! Use your favorite colors and add extra details. You can even draw a sky or other rides around it!

Conclusion

Great job! You’ve drawn a beautiful carousel. Remember, you can always add more decorations and details to make it your own. Keep having fun with your art, and happy drawing!

  • What was your favorite part of drawing the carousel, and why did you like it the most?
  • Can you think of a time when you saw a real carousel? What did it look like, and how did it make you feel?
  • If you could add any animal to your carousel, what would it be and why? How would you draw it?
  1. Carousel Observation Walk: Take a walk with an adult to a nearby park or fairground where you might find a real carousel. Observe the different parts of the carousel, like the horses, the platform, and the top. Notice the colors and decorations. When you get back home, draw what you remember and add any new details to your carousel drawing.

  2. Build a Carousel Model: Use everyday materials like paper cups, straws, and cardboard to create a small model of a carousel. Use the straws as poles and paper cups as the platform. Decorate your carousel with markers or stickers. This activity will help you understand how the different parts of a carousel fit together.

  3. Creative Story Time: Imagine a day in the life of one of the carousel horses you drew. Write a short story or draw a comic strip about its adventures when the carousel is not spinning. Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can come up with their own carousel horse story!
