How to Draw a Leprechaun: A Fun Guide

St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon, and drawing a leprechaun is a fun way to celebrate! Let’s learn how to draw a leprechaun step by step. Get your paper and pencils ready!

Step 1: Draw the Eyes

Start by drawing two big circles in the middle of your paper for the leprechaun’s eyes. Inside each eye, draw two smaller circles. Color the big circles but leave the small ones white. This makes the eyes look shiny!

Step 2: Add the Nose and Mouth

Next, draw a small oval between the eyes for the nose. Below the nose, draw a line that goes sideways for the mouth. Underneath, draw a U-shape to show an open mouth. You can even add a little tongue inside the U-shape!

Step 3: Outline the Face and Hat

Draw a big U-shape from one side of the face to the other to make the leprechaun’s face. For the hat, draw a line across the top of the head and a curved line above the ears.

Step 4: Draw the Beard and Ears

Leprechauns usually have beards, so draw a fluffy cloud shape around the bottom of the face. For the ears, draw a line sticking out from the side of the head, then a J-shape to connect it back.

Step 5: Create the Hat

Draw a big rainbow shape on top of the head for the hat. Add a belt by drawing a line across the hat and a buckle in the middle using two lines and a rectangle.

Step 6: Sketch the Body

Draw two lines coming down from the chin to make the body. Connect them at the bottom. Inside, draw two more lines for the jacket and a collar using a big sideways V and a smaller one underneath.

Step 7: Add the Belt and Bow Tie

Draw two lines across the waist for the belt and add a buckle like the one on the hat. For the bow tie, draw a square U shape for the knot and lines that curve up for the sides.

Step 8: Draw the Legs and Shoes

Draw two lines on each side for the legs and connect them at the bottom, leaving a gap in the middle. For the shoes, draw a curve for the heel and a bigger curve for the toes. Connect them and add thicker soles with an outward curve.

Step 9: Add Details to the Socks and Arms

Draw stripes on the socks by adding lines across the shoes. For the arms, start at the shoulders and draw a J-shape that curves back to the body. Do this for both arms.

Step 10: Complete with a Four-Leaf Clover

Finish your leprechaun by drawing a four-leaf clover on the hat. Start with a small X for the center and draw heart-shaped leaves around it. Add a stem to connect the clover to the hat.

Final Touches: Color Your Drawing

Now that your leprechaun is all drawn, grab your colors! Use your imagination to add fun details like a pot of gold or a rainbow. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun with your drawing!

Enjoy your leprechaun, and happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  • What do you think makes leprechauns special, and why do you think people like to draw them for St. Patrick’s Day?
  • Have you ever drawn something that made you feel happy or proud? What was it, and why did it make you feel that way?
  • If you could add something magical to your leprechaun drawing, what would it be and why?
  1. Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or garden and look for things that remind you of a leprechaun. Can you find anything green, like the leprechaun’s hat? Maybe you’ll spot a rainbow or something shiny like a pot of gold. Draw or write down what you find and share it with your class.

  2. Create Your Own Leprechaun Story: Imagine your leprechaun comes to life! What adventures would they go on? Write a short story or draw a comic strip about a day in the life of your leprechaun. Think about where they might hide their pot of gold or who they might meet along the way.

  3. Design a Leprechaun Outfit: Use craft materials like colored paper, fabric scraps, or even leaves to create a new outfit for your leprechaun. Think about what colors and patterns you would use. You can even make a small paper doll of your leprechaun and dress it up in your new design!
