Drawing is super fun, especially when we draw cute animals like cats! Let’s learn how to draw a cat step by step. Grab your crayons and paper, and let’s get started!
First, put your paper sideways. Draw a big letter “C.” It’s like making a big circle, but you only draw part of it. Start at the top, curve around, and come back down to finish the “C.”
Now, turn your paper so the “C” is lying down. Inside the “C,” draw a circle for the cat’s head. Make sure the circle touches both sides of the “C.” It can be round or a little oval—both are cute!
Let’s give our cat some ears! On top of the head, draw two upside-down “V” shapes. You can make the ears pointy or round, however you like!
In the middle of the cat’s face, draw a “V” shape for the nose. Connect the top of the “V” to make a triangle, and color it in if you want.
For the eyes, draw two “U” shapes, one on each side of the nose. You can make them look sleepy or wide awake. Then, draw two more “U” shapes from the bottom of the nose for the mouth.
Every cat needs whiskers! Draw three whiskers on each side of the face to make your cat look just right.
Under the chin, draw two “U” shapes for the cat’s paws. You can add little lines for toes to make them even cuter.
Now, let’s draw the tail. Start from the back and draw a line that goes down and then curves back up. You can make the tail long or short, however you like!
Time to color your cat! Use any colors you like. You can add spots, stripes, or even a background to make your drawing special.
Yay! You’ve drawn and colored your very own cat. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to color—be creative! Whether you use regular colors or something fun, your cat will show off your artistic style. Happy drawing!
Cat Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or visit a local park with your family. Look for real cats or pictures of cats. Notice the different shapes and sizes of their ears, tails, and whiskers. Can you find a cat with stripes or spots? Draw a picture of the cat you saw and compare it to the one you drew in the lesson. What is similar? What is different?
Shape Hunt: At home, look for objects that have the same shapes you used to draw your cat. Can you find something shaped like a “C” or a “U”? How about a triangle or a circle? Draw or take pictures of these objects and create a collage. Share your collage with your classmates and see if they found similar shapes!
Story Time with Your Cat Drawing: Use your cat drawing to create a short story. What is your cat’s name? Where does it live? What adventures does it go on? Write a few sentences or tell your story to a family member. You can even act it out with your cat drawing as the main character!
