Dachshunds are cute dogs with long bodies and short legs. Today, we’re going to learn how to draw one step by step. Grab your paper and markers, and let’s have some fun!
Start by drawing a big circle for the dachshund’s eye. Inside this circle, draw a tiny circle at the top right and another one at the bottom left. Color in the big circle to make the eye.
Next to the eye, draw a sideways “U” shape that looks like a pointy “V.” This is the mouth. Below it, draw a backward “C” for the nose and add two little circles inside for the nostrils.
Draw a line over the eye for the forehead. Then, make a floppy ear by drawing a line that curves down and back up, just like the nose shape. Connect the ear to the head.
Draw a curve going down and back up for the chest. For the front legs, draw a short line for the front and a longer line for the back. Connect them to make a paw, and add two small lines for the toes.
Draw another front leg like the first one. Connect it to the body and add the paw with two toe lines.
Imagine the chest line going down behind the front leg to make the long body. Draw a small line for the neck and curve it to form the back.
Draw the back legs with a curve going down, then a short line for the front of the leg. Make sure the back legs are as tall as the front legs. Add the paw and connect it to the leg, finishing with two toe lines.
Draw the tail by making a curve that goes up and then back down.
Now that your dachshund is all drawn, it’s time to color it! You can use any colors you like. Dachshunds are often brown, black, or a mix of both.
Great job on drawing your dachshund! Remember, every drawing is special, and the most important thing is to have fun. Enjoy coloring your creation, and feel free to try different styles and colors. Happy drawing!
Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or a local park with a grown-up. Look for different types of dogs. Can you spot any dachshunds? Notice their long bodies and short legs. How do they move? Draw a quick sketch of any dog you see and compare it to your dachshund drawing. What are the similarities and differences?
Shape Hunt: At home, look for objects that resemble the shapes you used to draw the dachshund. For example, find a circle for the eye or a “U” shape for the mouth. Gather these objects and use them to create a fun collage or sculpture of a dachshund. Share your creation with your family and explain the shapes you used.
Story Time: Imagine your dachshund drawing comes to life! Write a short story or draw a comic strip about an adventure your dachshund might have. Where would it go? What would it do? Share your story with a friend or family member and ask them what they think your dachshund might do next.
