Let’s Draw a Dolphin: A Fun Guide for Young Artists

Welcome, young artists! Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a dolphin. It’s going to be a fun and easy adventure, so let’s get started!

What You Need

Before we begin, make sure you have these things:

  • Crayons (blue and black)
  • Paper

Step 1: Drawing the Dolphin’s Body

Let’s start drawing our dolphin!

  1. Make a ‘C’ Shape: Use your blue crayon to draw a big letter ‘C’ in the middle of your paper. This is the dolphin’s body.
  2. Add the Nose: Above the ‘C’, draw a small backward ‘C’. This is the dolphin’s nose.
  3. Shape the Forehead: From the nose, draw a curved line that goes up and then down to a point. This is the dolphin’s forehead.
  4. Define the Top: Make the top of the forehead a little thicker by adding more height.

Step 2: Drawing the Flippers and Fins

Now, let’s give our dolphin some flippers and fins!

  1. Draw the Flippers: On each side of the body, draw a curve that sticks out. These are the dolphin’s flippers. Make sure they curve back into the body.
  2. Add the Top Fin: Draw a curve coming out from the back of the dolphin’s body. This is the dorsal fin. It should curve up and then back down.
  3. Create the Tail Fins: At the back of the dolphin, draw a curve that goes up and then down to make the tail fin. Do this again for the bottom fin, curving it back into the tail.

Step 3: Adding Details

Let’s add some details to our dolphin!

  1. Draw the Belly Line: To show the dolphin’s lighter belly, draw a curved line from the fin to the tail.
  2. Coloring the Dolphin: Use your blue crayon to color the dolphin, but leave the belly white. Start with the nose, then color the head and body.
  3. Finishing Touches: Color the top fin and side fins, and continue coloring down to the tail. Remember to keep the belly white!

Step 4: Adding the Face

Time to give our dolphin a face!

  1. Draw the Eyes: Make a circle for the eye and color it in. You can put it anywhere on the dolphin’s head.
  2. Add a Smile: Draw a small smile on the front of the dolphin to make it look happy.

Conclusion

Great job! You have drawn and colored a dolphin. Remember, it’s okay if your drawing looks different from others. The most important thing is to have fun and keep practicing your drawing skills. Keep up the great work, and we hope you enjoyed this creative activity!

  • What do you think makes dolphins special, and have you ever seen one in real life or in a picture? How did it make you feel?
  • When you were drawing the dolphin, what part did you find the most fun or challenging? Why do you think that was?
  • If you could draw another sea creature, which one would you choose and why? What colors would you use for it?
  1. Explore Dolphin Shapes: Go outside and look for objects that remind you of the shapes you used to draw your dolphin. Can you find anything that looks like a ‘C’ shape or a curve like the dolphin’s fins? Draw or take pictures of these objects and share them with your class.

  2. Create a Dolphin Habitat: Use a shoebox or a small container to create a mini ocean habitat for your dolphin drawing. Use blue paper or fabric for water, and add small rocks or plants to make it look like the ocean. Place your dolphin drawing inside and imagine what it would be like to swim there!

  3. Story Time with Dolphins: Think about what your dolphin might do in the ocean. Write a short story or draw a picture about an adventure your dolphin might have. Share your story or picture with your family or friends and talk about what you learned about dolphins.
