Father’s Day is a special time to show our dads how much we love them. Let’s make a fun and exciting art project to celebrate! We’ll create a surprise picture of Dad’s legs with two happy kids hanging on for a ride. Ready to start? Let’s go!
First, fold your paper. Take the top edge and fold it down to meet the bottom edge. Press the fold to make a crease. Open it up, then fold the top flap back to the top edge. Flip the paper over and do the same with the bottom edge. Open it up and flatten the paper.
Now, let’s draw Dad’s legs! Draw two lines down the middle of the paper, starting from the top and curving over the fold. Leave space at the bottom for shoes. Draw the outside lines of the legs, stopping before the bottom.
Connect the inside line to the outside line with a curve for the front of the foot. Do this for both legs. Add details like soles and shoelaces to make the shoes look real.
Unfold the paper to see the whole picture. Now, draw the kids hanging onto Dad’s legs. Start by drawing lines from the legs to the shoes.
Let’s draw the child on the left. Draw two circles for eyes, a small U for the nose, and a big J for a happy mouth. Add teeth and a tongue to show excitement. Draw a U shape for the head, then add ears, hair, and arms. Make sure the arms are hugging Dad’s leg tightly.
Draw the second child the same way, but change it up a bit. You can draw a girl this time and give her a different hairstyle. Add fun expressions or clothes to make each child special.
Once both kids are drawn, add more details to the shoes and clothes. You can also draw the bottom of Dad’s shirt and shorts.
Now it’s time to color! Use your favorite colors to make your drawing bright and cheerful. You can use the colors from the example or pick your own.
When you’re done, unfold the paper to reveal the surprise! This project is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day and make a special gift for Dad. Take pictures of your artwork and share them with friends and family. Happy Father’s Day, and have fun creating!
Observation Walk: Take a walk with your family and observe different types of shoes people are wearing. Notice the colors, shapes, and styles. When you return, draw a new pair of shoes for Dad in your art project, inspired by what you saw. Discuss with your family why people might choose different shoes for different activities.
Creative Storytelling: Imagine a fun adventure that the kids in your drawing could have while hanging onto Dad’s legs. Write a short story or tell it to a family member. Think about where they might go, what they might see, and how they feel during the adventure. Share your story with the class or your family.
Color Exploration: Experiment with mixing colors using your markers or colored pencils. Try to create new shades for the clothes or shoes in your drawing. Discuss with a friend or family member how different colors make you feel and why you chose certain colors for your artwork.
