How to Draw a Giant Summer Cactus

Let’s have some fun drawing a big cactus wearing sunglasses and decorated with flowers! Grab your markers and paper, and let’s get started!

Step 1: Draw the Sunglasses

First, let’s draw the sunglasses for our cactus.

  1. Draw two “U” shapes next to each other. These will be the lenses.
  2. Connect the tops of the “U” shapes with a curved line.
  3. Draw a curve around each lens to outline the sunglasses.
  4. Add a small oval in the top left of each lens for a shiny spot, and color the lenses, leaving the ovals white.

Step 2: Create the Cactus Shape

Now, let’s draw the cactus body.

  1. Start from the left side of the sunglasses and draw a long curve down, like a big pickle.
  2. Do the same on the right side, making the cactus get narrower at the bottom.
  3. Draw an upside-down “U” shape on top, behind the sunglasses, and curve it back down.

Step 3: Add a Mouth

Time to give your cactus a funny face!

  1. Draw a silly mouth. You can make it any way you like!

Step 4: Draw the Arms

Let’s add some arms to our cactus.

  1. On the left side, draw a big curve going up and then back down, getting thinner as it reaches the body.
  2. Do the same on the right side to make it look even.

Step 5: Add Flowers

Cacti often have pretty flowers, so let’s add some!

  1. Draw a small circle at the top of the cactus and on the arms.
  2. Surround the circle with little “U” shapes to make petals.
  3. You can also draw smaller cacti around your big cactus for more details.

Step 6: Draw the Desert Floor

Let’s make our cactus stand on the desert floor.

  1. Draw a bumpy line at the bottom of your cactus to show the ground.

Step 7: Color Your Cactus

Now, let’s make our cactus colorful!

  1. Use green markers to color the cactus.
  2. Add lines with a darker green to give it texture.
  3. Color the flowers with bright colors!

Step 8: Add a Background (Optional)

If you want, you can add a background to your drawing.

  1. Draw a desert scene or anything else that looks nice with your cactus.

Conclusion

Great job! You’ve drawn a giant summer cactus. Feel free to add your own colors and backgrounds. We hope you had fun and can’t wait to see your amazing cactus drawings!

  • Imagine your cactus could talk. What kind of funny or interesting things do you think it would say while wearing its sunglasses?
  • Think about a time when you made something creative, like a drawing or a craft. How did it make you feel, and what did you enjoy most about the process?
  1. Observation Walk: Take a walk outside or in a garden with your family and look for real cacti or other plants. Notice their shapes, colors, and any flowers they might have. Can you find any plants that look like the cactus you drew? Talk about how they are similar or different.

  2. Creative Storytelling: Imagine your cactus drawing comes to life! Write or tell a short story about an adventure your cactus might have in the desert. What does it see? Who does it meet? Share your story with your classmates or family.

  3. Color Experiment: Try using different colors for your cactus drawing. What happens if you make the cactus purple or blue instead of green? How does it change the way your picture looks? Share your colorful cactus with a friend and see what they think!
