How to Draw a Graduating Dog: A Fun Guide

Welcome to a fun and creative drawing adventure! Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a cute dog that’s graduating from school. This is a great project for making a special card or just having fun. So, grab your markers and paper, and let’s get started!

Step 1: Draw the Dog’s Nose

First, let’s draw the dog’s nose. Find the center of your paper, a little towards the top. Draw an oval shape for the nose. Inside this oval, draw a smaller oval to make it look shiny. Color the big oval, but leave the small one white.

Step 2: Add the Eyes

Now, let’s draw the eyes. Draw two circles, one on the left and one on the right of the nose. Inside each eye, draw a tiny circle in the top left corner for a sparkle. Color the big circles, but keep the small ones white. Add some eyelashes to make the eyes extra cute!

Step 3: Create the Mouth and Tongue

To make the mouth, draw a curved line above the nose. Below the nose, draw a “U” shape that goes to the left, then mirror it on the right to make a “W” shape. For the tongue, draw another “U” shape in the middle of the mouth with two bumps on top. Connect the tongue to the mouth and color it in.

Step 4: Outline the Dog’s Head

Draw a curve over the top of the dog’s head. Then, add two more curves on each side for the cheeks. Use zigzag lines on the cheeks to show fluffy fur, and connect the cheeks with a curved line for the chin.

Step 5: Draw the Ears

For the ears, draw a curve that goes outwards and add a zigzag at the end. Do the same on the other side. You can make the ears floppy, pointy, or short—it’s up to you!

Step 6: Add the Graduation Cap

To draw the graduation cap, start with two vertical lines coming up from the dog’s head. Connect them with a curved line. Draw a square shape on top by connecting lines from the top of the vertical lines to a point in the middle. Add a tassel by drawing a string from the cap to the ear, finishing with a circle and square shape.

Step 7: Accessorize with a Bow Tie

Let’s give your dog a festive look with a bow tie under the chin. Draw a small knot and two triangles extending from it. You can also add a scarf if you want!

Step 8: Draw the Front Paws

For the front paws, draw two lines coming down from the body, curving around to form the paws. Add zigzag lines to connect the legs and make them look fluffy. Don’t forget to draw little curves for the toes!

Step 9: Sketch the Back Legs

Draw the back legs by making a curve that shows the dog is sitting. Add paws sticking out and draw lines for the toes.

Step 10: Complete with a Tail

Finally, draw a tail that curves around and back in. Use zigzag lines to make it look furry.

Step 11: Color Your Drawing

Now that your drawing is done, it’s time to add color! You can choose any colors you like. Be creative—maybe add some spots or patterns to your puppy!

Conclusion

Great job! You’ve drawn and colored a super cute graduating puppy. This artwork is perfect for celebrating achievements and spreading happiness. We hope you had a lot of fun and can’t wait to see your amazing creations!

  • What was your favorite part of drawing the graduating dog, and why did you like it the most?
  • If you could add something special to your drawing, like a background or extra accessories, what would it be and why?
  • Have you ever seen a real graduation ceremony? How do you think the dog would feel if it were graduating, and why?
  1. Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or a park and look for real dogs. Observe their features like the shape of their ears, the color of their fur, and how they move. Try to remember these details and use them to add more realistic features to your drawing. Can you spot a dog with floppy ears or a wagging tail?

  2. Creative Storytelling: Imagine a story about your graduating dog. Where is it graduating from? What are its favorite subjects? Write a short story or draw a comic strip about a day in the life of your dog at school. Share your story with your family or friends and see if they can add to it!

  3. Color Experimentation: Use different art supplies like crayons, colored pencils, or watercolors to color your dog drawing. Try mixing colors to see what new shades you can create. What happens when you mix blue and yellow? How about red and white? Experiment and see how different colors can change the look of your dog.
