Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a cute bird called a green cheek conure. This bird is inspired by a special bird named Queso. Let’s have fun and create a lovely picture of this charming bird together!
Before we start, make sure you have these things ready:
1. Draw a small circle near the top of your paper for the bird’s eye. Color it in.
2. Draw an upside-down “U” shape over the eye and a curve underneath to connect it.
3. Make a round shape for the head with a flat top, curving down to the back.
1. Draw a small curve for the top of the beak, then make a hooked shape that curves out and down.
2. Extend the curve down for the bottom of the beak, connecting it to the top.
1. Draw the back of the neck going down, then make a shorter front neck.
2. For the body, draw a curve that goes out and then back in on both sides.
3. Add straight lines down on each side for the legs.
1. Draw a wiggly line across the bottom of the bird for the branch it’s sitting on.
2. Add a thin line underneath to finish the branch.
1. Draw two small “U” shapes for the feet on either side of the branch.
2. Add curves for the talons at the bottom of each foot.
1. Make a “U” shape under the branch for the tail.
2. Draw longer feathers coming down from the tail, connecting them in the middle.
1. Draw a curve extending out from the body for the wings, connecting them back to the branch.
2. Add extra feather details to the wings.
Now that you have the basic outline, you can add more details like feather texture or facial features.
1. Use a medium warm gray for the beak and forehead.
2. Color the cheeks with yellow, leaving a small white patch on the chest.
3. Add red to the belly and tail feathers.
4. Use green for the wings and cheek feathers.
5. Finish with blue for the flight feathers and pink for the fleshy parts of the beak.
1. Use a lighter gray to add feather texture on the neck and body.
2. Add highlights to the eye and beak with a white colored pencil to make them shiny.
Great job! You’ve drawn and colored a green cheek conure. Remember, your drawing is unique, and that’s awesome. The most important thing is to have fun and keep practicing. You can even add more birds or a background to your picture. Happy drawing!
Bird Watching Adventure: Take a walk outside or visit a local park with your family. Look for birds in the trees or flying in the sky. Can you spot any birds that remind you of the green cheek conure? Try to observe their colors, shapes, and sizes. Draw a picture of the bird you see and compare it to your green cheek conure drawing. How are they similar or different?
Create a Bird Habitat: Use materials like twigs, leaves, and small stones to create a mini bird habitat in a shoebox or on a piece of cardboard. Think about where a green cheek conure might live. What kind of trees or plants would be around? Add your drawing of the green cheek conure to your habitat. Share your creation with your family and explain why you chose those materials.
Color Mixing Experiment: Gather some paints or colored pencils. Try mixing different colors to match the colors of the green cheek conure. For example, mix yellow and blue to make green for the wings. What happens when you mix red and yellow? Experiment with creating new colors and use them to color another drawing of a bird. Discuss with a friend or family member how different colors can be made by mixing.
