How to Draw a Lioncorn: A Fun Guide

Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a super cool creature called a lioncorn! It’s a mix between a lion and a unicorn. So, grab your drawing tools, and let’s have some fun!

What You Need

  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Paper
  • Colorless blender (if you have one)

Step 1: Drawing the Lion’s Head

Start with a U Shape: Draw a big letter “U” in the middle of your paper. This will be the lion’s head.

Add Ears: Draw an upside-down “U” on the left for one ear, and another on the right for the other ear. Connect the ears with a small curve on top.

Step 2: Adding the Unicorn Horn

Draw the Horn: In the center of the head, draw a curved shape that goes up and down to make the unicorn horn. Add some diagonal lines to make it look cool.

Step 3: Features of the Face

Inside the Ears: Draw a circle inside each ear for the inner ear.

Nose and Mouth: Draw a “Y” shape near the bottom of the head for the nose. Add a small curve above it for the top of the nose.

Eyes: Draw two big circles for the eyes. Add smaller circles inside them to make them look shiny.

Step 4: Adding the Mane

Draw the Mane: Start at the horn and draw zigzag lines that connect to the ears. Keep the zigzag pattern going behind the ears and down the sides of the head.

Step 5: Drawing the Body

Body Shape: Draw two curves coming down from the mane for the body. Add a curved line in the middle for the belly, leaving space on both sides.

Legs: Draw the inside of the legs to match the outside curves. Connect the bottom of the legs with a straight line.

Step 6: Adding Wings

Draw the Wings: Create diagonal lines coming out from the body. Add U-shaped feathers at the ends, and keep adding more feathers to fill them out.

Step 7: Tail and Final Touches

Draw the Tail: Make an S-shaped curve for the tail, and make it thicker by adding another line next to it. Connect the lines with a U-shape at the end.

Add Texture: Add some lines to the tail to give it detail.

Step 8: Coloring Your Lioncorn

Choose Your Colors: Pick some colors for your lioncorn. Use light brown or yellow for the face and ears, and leave the center of the face white.

Color the Horn and Mane: Use pink for the inside of the ears and add colorful stripes to the horn and mane.

Add Details: Use darker colors for the nose and add highlights to the eyes. You can also add shadows around the wings and mane to make them stand out.

Step 9: Final Enhancements

Outline Your Drawing: Use a darker marker to go around the edges of your lioncorn to make it pop.

Add Magical Elements: You can add stars or other magical things around your lioncorn to make it look even more special.

Conclusion

Great job! You’ve drawn and colored your very own lioncorn. You can do this fun activity anytime, and even add more things like clouds or other animals to your drawing. Enjoy being creative, and don’t forget to share your amazing artwork!

  • What do you think makes a lioncorn special and different from other animals? Can you think of other animals you might like to combine to create a new creature?
  • When you draw or color, how does it make you feel? Do you have a favorite part of drawing, like adding colors or creating shapes?
  • Have you ever seen a unicorn or a lion in a story or a movie? What did you like about them, and how would you make your lioncorn unique if you could add anything to it?
  1. Create Your Own Mythical Creature: Now that you’ve learned how to draw a lioncorn, try creating your own mythical creature by combining two of your favorite animals. Think about what features each animal has and how you can blend them together. Draw your new creature and give it a name. Share your drawing with your friends or family and explain why you chose those animals.

  2. Color Exploration: Experiment with different colors for your lioncorn. Try using colors you wouldn’t normally use for a lion or a unicorn. What happens if you make the mane rainbow-colored or the body a bright blue? Discuss how colors can change the way we see and feel about a drawing. You can even create a story about why your lioncorn has those special colors.

  3. Observation Walk: Go on a short walk around your neighborhood or a park with a family member. Look for animals or objects that inspire you. Notice their shapes, colors, and patterns. When you get back, try to incorporate some of those elements into your lioncorn drawing or create a new drawing inspired by what you saw. This will help you see how art can be inspired by the world around us.
