Let’s have fun celebrating the Chinese New Year by drawing a lucky cat! This is a fun activity for everyone. So, grab your paper, markers, and coloring supplies, and let’s start drawing!
Start by drawing a small “V” shape in the middle of your paper. This will be the cat’s nose. Then, draw an upside-down triangle on top of the “V” and color it in. Now you have the cat’s nose!
Draw a “U” shape under the nose for the mouth. Add another “U” shape on the other side to finish the mouth.
Draw two circles for the eyes, one on each side of the face. Inside each eye, draw a smaller circle in the top right corner. Color the big circles but leave the small circles white to make the eyes look shiny.
Below the left eye, draw an upside-down “U” shape. On the left side of this shape, draw a curve that goes underneath but doesn’t connect all the way. Add two small curves at the end for the cat’s fingers.
Start from the left side and draw a curve that goes under and connects to the paw. Imagine this line going behind the paw and curving up on the other side.
Draw two big upside-down “V” shapes on top of the cat’s head for the ears. It’s okay if they look a little different; just have fun!
Inside each ear, draw a smaller upside-down “V” shape to add detail.
Under the chin, draw a circle for the bell and another smaller circle inside it. Color the smaller circle. Then, draw a line straight down from the bell and add a curve for the collar.
On the left side, draw an upside-down “U” shape next to the bell to show the paw holding a coin. Complete the shape with a curve underneath. Add two small curves for the fingers.
Draw a curve from the paw to form the coin. Connect the body by drawing a line that comes down from the coin. Leave a little space before reaching the bottom of the coin. Draw another upside-down “U” shape for the back foot, making sure both sides are even.
Draw a shape like a bib or apron coming down in front of the cat. Connect the paw to the coin and imagine the line connecting to the collar.
Add two lines for whiskers on each cheek to finish your lucky cat drawing.
Now it’s time to color your lucky cat! Use markers or any coloring supplies you have. Be creative with your colors!
Great job! You’ve drawn a lucky cat to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Remember, the most important part is to have fun and enjoy making art. Happy drawing!
Lucky Cat Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or visit a local store with your family. Look for lucky cat statues or images. How many can you find? Notice the different colors and styles. Discuss with your family why these cats might be displayed and what they symbolize. Draw a picture of your favorite lucky cat that you saw on your walk.
Create Your Own Lucky Cat Story: Imagine your lucky cat drawing comes to life. What adventures would it go on? Write a short story or draw a comic strip about your lucky cat’s day. Share your story with your classmates or family and see what adventures their lucky cats might have.
Color Exploration: In many cultures, colors have special meanings. Research with your family or teacher what different colors mean in Chinese culture. Then, choose colors for your lucky cat drawing based on their meanings. For example, red might symbolize good luck, while gold could represent wealth. Explain why you chose each color for your lucky cat.
