Let’s Draw a Puffer Fish!

Drawing is super fun, especially when we make something cool like a puffer fish! Today, we will learn how to draw one step by step. So, grab your crayons and paper, and let’s start our art adventure!

What You Need

Before we begin, make sure you have these things:

  • Crayons (orange, black, pink, and any other colors you love)
  • Paper

Step 1: Draw the Body

Take your orange crayon and draw a big circle on your paper. This will be the body of your puffer fish. You can even draw a smaller circle inside for extra detail. Once you’re happy with your circles, color them in. Take your time and have fun!

Step 2: Add the Face

Now, use your black crayon to draw a happy smile in the middle of the circle. You can add little cheeks on each side of the smile to make your fish look friendly. If you want, color the inside of the mouth too.

Step 3: Draw the Eyes

Let’s give your puffer fish some eyes! Draw one circle for an eye and color it in. Then, draw another circle for the second eye. Now your fish can see!

Step 4: Create the Fins

For the fins, draw a shape that looks like a sideways letter “C” or an ear on one side of the fish. Add two lines inside for detail. Do the same on the other side to make the second fin.

Step 5: Add the Tail

At the back of the fish, draw a tail. It can look like a triangle with two lines coming out from the base. This will help your fish swim!

Step 6: Add Spikes

Puffer fish have spikes to keep them safe. Draw small “V” shapes all around the body of the fish. You can add lots of spikes to make your fish look cool and brave!

Step 7: Color the Cheeks

Use your pink crayon to add some color to the cheeks. Draw small circles right below the eyes or next to the mouth for a cute touch.

Step 8: Add Background Elements

Your puffer fish is ready! Now, think about what you want in the background. You could draw underwater scenes, bubbles, or even a sky if your puffer fish is flying! Let your imagination go wild.

Conclusion

Yay! You’ve drawn a puffer fish! Remember, the best part is having fun and practicing your drawing skills. Every puffer fish will look different, and that’s what makes your art special. Keep drawing and enjoy your creative journey!

  • What do you think makes a puffer fish special, and why do you think it has spikes? Can you think of any other animals that have something special to keep them safe?
  • When you draw your puffer fish, what colors and background elements would you choose? Why do you think those choices make your drawing unique?
  • Have you ever seen a real puffer fish or any other interesting fish? What did it look like, and how was it different from the puffer fish you drew?
  1. Explore Real Puffer Fish: Take a moment to look at pictures or videos of real puffer fish. Notice their colors, shapes, and how they move. Discuss with a friend or family member what makes them unique. Can you spot the spikes and fins like the ones you drew?

  2. Create a Puffer Fish Story: Imagine your puffer fish is going on an adventure. Where would it go? What would it see? Draw a picture of your puffer fish in a new place, like a coral reef or a treasure chest. Share your story with your class or family.

  3. Color Mixing Fun: Experiment with mixing crayon colors to create new shades for your puffer fish. Try blending orange with a little bit of yellow or red to see what happens. Use these new colors to add more details to your drawing, like shadows or highlights.
