Drawing is a super fun way to be creative! Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a cute puffin. Grab your markers, some paper, and let’s get started!
First, draw a big circle for the puffin’s head. This is where we’ll start our drawing. Inside this big circle, draw a smaller circle for the eye. Add a tiny circle inside the eye for a shiny spot. Above the eye, draw an upside-down “V” shape to finish the face.
Now, let’s add some details to the head. Color in the big circle and the “V” shape. Next, draw a sideways raindrop shape inside the head. It starts at one point and curves around back to the start. You can turn your paper if it helps!
To make the puffin’s beak, start at the top of the head and draw a curve going down. Then, draw another curve that goes back into the bottom of the head. At the tip of the beak, draw a line that curves back to the head. Add some fun details by drawing a curve down the middle of the beak and a small sideways “U” or backward “C” near the mouth.
Now, let’s draw the body and wings. Start just under the head with a big curve going down and back. Draw another shorter curve with a gap for the wing. For the belly, start under the chin and draw a curve that connects back to the wing. Add a sideways “V” shape for extra feathers on the wing.
Don’t forget the feet! Draw a diagonal line for the first foot, then another line going down. Make three “U” shapes at the bottom for the webbed feet. Do the same for the other foot and connect them nicely.
Yay, you’ve drawn a puffin! Now, let’s color it. Use markers, crayons, or colored pencils—whatever you like. Take your time to make it colorful and fun!
To make your drawing even cooler, add a background. You could draw a rock, the ocean, trees, or even more puffins to make a lively scene.
Remember, the most important thing about drawing is to have fun and practice. It’s okay if your puffin looks different; every drawing is special! Enjoy your artistic adventure, and happy drawing!
Puffin Observation Walk: Take a walk outside or look out your window and try to spot birds. Notice their shapes, colors, and how they move. Can you see any birds with features similar to a puffin, like a big beak or webbed feet? Draw a picture of the bird you see and compare it to your puffin drawing. How are they similar or different?
Beak Experiment: Puffins have special beaks to help them catch fish. Try using different tools like tweezers, clothespins, or spoons to pick up small objects like beads or pasta. Which tool works best and why? Think about how a puffin’s beak might help it catch fish in the ocean.
Create Your Own Bird: Use your imagination to create a new bird species. Draw its head, body, beak, wings, and feet. What colors will it have? What kind of environment does it live in? Write a short story about your bird’s adventures and share it with your family or friends.
