How to Draw a Stick Figure

Drawing a stick figure is super easy and fun! You don’t need to be a great artist to do it. All you need is a circle and some lines. Let’s learn how to draw a stick figure step by step!

Step 1: The Head

Start by drawing a circle or an oval for the head. It’s best if the oval is up and down, like a real person’s head. But if you’re drawing a dog or someone lying down, you might want to change it up a bit!

Step 2: The Body

Next, connect the head to the body with a line. Make sure it’s not too long. If the line curves, it might look like the person is sad or doing yoga!

Step 3: The Legs

Now, let’s draw the legs. This part is really important! Make the legs longer than the body because that’s how people look in real life. You can make them look like they’re running, walking, or even doing the splits. Just don’t make them too long, or they might look like an alien!

Step 4: The Arms

For the arms, you can draw a single line, but remember, real people have arms that can move in different directions. Arms can do lots of things like waving, pointing, or even holding a telescope!

Step 5: The Face

Finally, you can decide if you want to draw a face. Some people like to leave it blank so others can imagine the emotions. If you want, you can add ears to make it extra cute!

Helping Kids Around the World

This drawing lesson is part of the “School of YouTube” Charity event. It’s all about helping kids who can’t go to school because of poverty or other problems. Comic Relief is a charity that helps kids get a better education. You can donate to help them by visiting comicrelief.com/soyt or texting SOYT to 71777 if you’re in the US. Even a small donation can make a big difference, like buying school supplies for students. How many malts worth of education will you donate?

  • Have you ever drawn a stick figure before? What kind of stick figure would you like to draw, and what would it be doing?
  • Why do you think it’s important for kids around the world to have the chance to go to school? How would you feel if you couldn’t go to school?
  • If you could add something special to your stick figure, like a hat or a pet, what would it be and why?
  • Stick Figure Storytelling: Create a short story using stick figures. Draw a series of stick figures showing different actions or emotions, like running, jumping, or feeling happy. Then, write a few sentences to describe what’s happening in your stick figure story. Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can guess the emotions or actions based on your drawings!

  • Stick Figure Family Portrait: Draw a stick figure portrait of your family or friends. Think about how you can make each stick figure unique. Maybe one person has long hair, another wears glasses, or someone is holding a favorite toy. Use different colors to add details and make your stick figure family come to life!

  • Stick Figure Observation Walk: Go on a walk around your neighborhood or a park with a notebook and pencil. Observe how people move and stand. Try to sketch quick stick figures showing different poses you see, like someone sitting on a bench, walking a dog, or riding a bike. Notice how the arms and legs move and try to capture that in your drawings.
