How to Draw a Raptor: A Fun Guide

Drawing a raptor is a super fun and creative activity! In this guide, we’ll show you how to make your very own raptor picture. Grab your drawing supplies, like paper and a marker, and let’s get started!

Materials Needed

  • Paper (best if it’s sideways)
  • Marker or any drawing tool
  • Coloring supplies (if you want to add color)

Step 1: Draw the Head and Eyes

  1. Start by drawing a slanted line for the eye.
  2. Make the bottom of the eye by drawing a curve that goes down and back up.
  3. Add a small circle inside for the pupil.
  4. Next, draw the mouth. Make a curve like an “S” shape, going down and then back up a little.
  5. Draw the bottom of the mouth and add teeth by making curves that go back into the mouth.
  6. Keep drawing teeth until you reach the back of the mouth.
  7. Add a nostril at the front of the head.

Step 2: Outline the Neck and Body

  1. Draw the top of the head by curving up and over the eye, then back past the mouth.
  2. For the neck, draw a curve that goes down and connects to the body.
  3. Extend the body with a curve that goes back further.
  4. Draw the tail extending from the body, curving down a little.

Step 3: Draw the Arms

  1. Start the first arm by drawing a curve that comes down from the neck.
  2. Bend the arm forward and add the first finger (talon).
  3. Draw another finger next to it and connect them with a slanted line.
  4. Add a third finger by drawing another curve and connecting it back in.
  5. Finish the arm by drawing the back side of the arm leading to the elbow.

Step 4: Draw the Back Leg

  1. Begin the back leg close to the tail, curving forward to touch the front arm.
  2. Draw the knee by curving back to the right.
  3. For the foot, start with a big talon that looks like a hook.
  4. Add the next toe coming forward and curving down, then connect them.
  5. Draw the rest of the toes, making sure to include the talons.

Step 5: Draw the Other Leg

  1. For the other leg, draw it coming back to the right, curving down into the knee.
  2. Draw the foot, starting with a big talon and then adding the other toes.
  3. Make sure the foot is touching the ground, and add a small toe at the end.

Step 6: Finalize the Drawing

  1. Add a second arm in a raised position, repeating the steps for the first arm.
  2. Make any changes to the tail or body if needed.

Step 7: Color Your Raptor

Once you’re happy with your drawing, it’s time to add color! You can use colors from the Jurassic movies or make your own special design. Try adding shading and highlights to make it look even cooler.

Conclusion

Great job! You’ve drawn and colored your raptor. You can also add a background, like a jungle, to make your artwork even more exciting. We hope you had fun drawing, and that your raptor looks amazing! Happy drawing!

  • What do you think makes drawing a raptor fun and exciting? Have you ever drawn a dinosaur or another animal before? What did you enjoy about it?
  • Imagine your raptor is alive. What kind of adventures do you think it would have? Where would it go, and what would it do?
  • If you could add a special feature to your raptor, like colorful feathers or a unique pattern, what would it be and why? How would it make your raptor different from others?
  • Explore Raptor Movements: Imagine how a raptor might move in the wild. Try to act out how a raptor would walk, run, or hunt. Think about how its legs and arms move. You can even create a short play or dance showing the raptor’s movements. Ask a friend or family member to join you and see who can make the best raptor impression!

  • Raptor Habitat Adventure: Go on a mini adventure in your backyard or a local park. Look for places where a raptor might live if it were real. What kind of plants and trees would be in its habitat? Draw a picture of the perfect home for your raptor, including any special features like a cave or a river. Share your drawing with your class and explain why your raptor would love living there.

  • Colorful Raptor Creations: Use your imagination to create a new type of raptor. Think about what colors and patterns it might have. Would it have stripes, spots, or maybe even rainbow colors? Draw your unique raptor and give it a name. Write a short story about an adventure your raptor goes on, and share it with your classmates or family.
