Creating a Winter Wonderland: A Fun Drawing Guide

Let’s have some fun and learn how to draw a beautiful winter wonderland! This creative activity is perfect for everyone who loves to draw. Gather your art supplies, and let’s get started!

What You Need

Before we begin, make sure you have these materials:

  • Markers in different colors
  • Paper
  • White acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes

We’ll use markers for most of the drawing, and the white paint will help us make the snow look real at the end.

Step 1: Drawing the Moon

First, draw a big circle for the moon. Place it a little to the right side of your paper. This will be the main part of your winter picture.

Step 2: Adding Trees

Now, let’s draw a pine tree. Follow these steps:

  1. Draw an upside-down “V” shape next to the moon.
  2. Connect the sides with a zigzag line at the bottom.
  3. Add two more diagonal lines to make more layers for the tree.
  4. Keep adding layers to make the tree taller if you want.
  5. Draw the trunk with two straight lines in the middle.

Let’s add more trees and hills to make our picture look deep:

  • Draw a smaller tree in the background using the same steps, but make it shorter to show it’s far away.
  • Create a snowy hill that goes down and connects to the first tree.
  • Add more trees and hills, changing their sizes to make it look 3D.

Step 3: Adding Fun Details

Feel free to add more fun things to your drawing, like:

  • A cozy cabin with smoke coming from the chimney.
  • Animals like deer or rabbits.
  • Santa and his sleigh flying in the sky.

Once you’re happy with your drawing, it’s time to color it!

Step 4: Coloring the Landscape

Pick your coloring markers. We suggest using two shades of blue and two shades of green. Here’s how to color your picture:

  1. Use a light blue marker to make a glow around the moon.
  2. Color the sky with a dark blue marker.
  3. Shade the snow with the light blue marker.
  4. For the trees, use light green for the faraway trees and dark green for the closer ones, leaving some white spots for snow on the branches.
  5. Color the tree trunks with a brown marker.

Step 5: Adding Shadows

To make your drawing look more real:

  • Use the blue marker to add shadows at the bottom of the snow on the trees.
  • Add shadows under the branches to make it look 3D.

Step 6: Painting Snowflakes

Now for the fun part! Let’s make snowflakes with white acrylic paint:

  1. Pour a little paint into a tray.
  2. Use a paintbrush to dab snowflakes onto your drawing. Make them different sizes for a natural look.
  3. Paint some snowflakes in front of the trees and the moon to make it look layered.

Tip: If you’re right-handed, start painting from the left side of your paper to keep the paint from smudging.

Conclusion

Once you’re done painting your snowflakes, step back and admire your winter wonderland! Using acrylic paint over markers makes the snow look bright and beautiful. We hope you had fun creating your winter scene. Happy drawing!

  • What do you like most about winter, and how would you add that to your winter wonderland drawing?
  • Can you think of a time when you saw snow or a winter scene? How did it make you feel, and what details would you include in your drawing to show those feelings?
  • If you could add any magical creature or character to your winter wonderland, who or what would it be, and why?
  1. Explore Your Environment: Take a walk outside or look out your window. Can you spot any trees or hills that remind you of the ones in your winter wonderland drawing? Try to notice how the light and shadows play on them. When you come back, add any new details you saw to your drawing, like extra branches or different shapes of hills.

  2. Snowflake Experiment: Use a piece of black or dark-colored paper and some white paint to create snowflakes. Try making different sizes and shapes. What happens if you use a toothbrush to flick the paint instead of a brush? Discuss with a friend or family member how real snowflakes might look different from each other and why.

  3. Story Time: Imagine a story that takes place in your winter wonderland. Who lives in the cozy cabin? What adventures do they have in the snowy landscape? Share your story with your class or write it down and illustrate it with more drawings.
