Let’s learn how to draw a wombat, a special animal from Australia! Get your drawing tools ready, and let’s have some fun!
Before we start, make sure you have these things:
1. Draw an upside-down “U” shape in the middle of your paper for the wombat’s nose.
2. Add two smaller upside-down “U” shapes on each side for the nostrils.
3. Connect the nostrils with a curve to finish the nose.
1. Draw a short line going down below the nose.
2. Make a small curve on each side to form the mouth.
3. Add little cheeks by drawing curves on each side of the mouth.
4. Draw a curve under the mouth to show it’s open, and color it in.
1. Draw two circles for the eyes, one on the left and one on the right.
2. Inside each circle, draw a smaller circle for a shiny spot, and color the bigger circle.
1. Start on the left side of the left eye and draw a big upside-down “U” that ends on the right side of the right eye.
2. Add furry cheeks by drawing three zigzag lines on both sides of the face.
3. Connect the cheeks with a curve at the bottom to complete the head shape.
1. Draw an upside-down “V” shape on the left side for one ear and repeat on the right side.
2. Inside each ear, draw a short line followed by two zigzag lines for texture.
1. From the left side, draw a curve downwards for the shoulder.
2. Below the head, add zigzag lines for the fur.
3. Continue drawing the arm downwards.
1. On the right side, start higher on the head and draw a curve connecting to the ear.
2. Imagine the body going behind the ear and draw it downwards, adding zigzag lines for fur.
3. Draw the back leg coming down further.
1. For the other arm, draw a curve downwards and add zigzag lines for fur.
2. On the left side, draw a zigzag line for the claws, repeating this step to create four claws.
3. Connect the top of each claw with an upside-down “U.”
1. Repeat the claw drawing process for the right arm.
2. Draw a short line upwards to connect the arms and create a zigzag line for the belly.
1. Complete the back leg by drawing more claws using zigzag lines.
2. Connect the top of the claws to finish the leg shape.
Now that your wombat is drawn, it’s time to add some color! Use light brown and dark brown to color your wombat, with dark brown for the nose and claws.
To make your drawing even more interesting, consider adding a background. You could draw the wombat coming out of a tunnel or a family of wombats, including a baby wombat.
– Wombats are marsupials, which means they carry their young in a pouch.
– Their pouch faces backward to keep dirt out while they dig.
We hope you enjoyed this drawing tutorial and had fun creating your own wombat! Happy drawing!
Wombat Habitat Exploration: Take a walk in your backyard or a nearby park and imagine where a wombat might live. Look for places that could be like a wombat’s tunnel. Draw a picture of your imagined wombat habitat and share it with your class. What other animals might live there?
Wombat Story Time: Create a short story about your wombat. What adventures does it go on? Does it meet other animals? Draw a picture to go with your story. Share your story with a friend or family member and ask them what they think your wombat might do next.
Wombat Observation Journal: For one week, keep a journal of any animals you see around your home or school. Write down or draw what they look like and what they are doing. Compare these animals to your wombat drawing. How are they similar or different? What do you think these animals eat or where do they sleep?
