How to Draw an Umbrella

Hello, little artist! Today, we are going to learn how to draw something very special. Can you guess what it is? It’s an umbrella! Umbrellas are super helpful when it rains because they keep us dry. Let’s have fun drawing one together!

What You Need

Before we start, let’s make sure we have everything we need:

  • A piece of paper
  • Some crayons or colored pencils
  • A pencil with an eraser

Let’s Start Drawing!

Are you ready? Let’s begin!

Step 1: Draw a Big Curve

First, take your pencil and draw a big curve on your paper. This will be the top part of the umbrella. It looks like a big smile!

Step 2: Add the Umbrella’s Handle

Now, let’s draw the handle. From the middle of the curve, draw a straight line going down. Then, make a little hook at the end. This is where you hold the umbrella!

Step 3: Make the Umbrella’s Sections

Umbrellas have sections that look like triangles. Draw some lines from the top of the curve to the bottom. These lines make the umbrella look like it has different parts.

Step 4: Time to Color!

Now comes the fun part! Use your crayons or colored pencils to color your umbrella. You can use any colors you like. Maybe you want a rainbow umbrella or one with your favorite color!

Great Job!

Wow, look at your amazing umbrella! You did such a great job. Remember, you can draw umbrellas anytime you want, and you can make them look different each time. Keep practicing and have fun drawing!

Thanks for drawing with me today. See you next time for more fun art adventures!

  • What do you like most about drawing? Is there something special you would like to draw next time?
  • Can you think of a time when you used an umbrella? What was the weather like, and how did the umbrella help you?
  • If you could design your own umbrella, what colors or patterns would you choose? Why do you like those colors or patterns?
  1. Umbrella Observation Walk: Take a walk with your family or friends on a rainy day. Look around and see how many different umbrellas you can spot. What colors and patterns do you see? Do some umbrellas have different shapes? Talk about how umbrellas help keep people dry and why they are important. Draw your favorite umbrella from the walk when you get home.

  2. Umbrella Crafting: Use materials like paper plates, pipe cleaners, and markers to create a 3D umbrella. Cut a paper plate in half to make the top of the umbrella. Decorate it with colors and patterns. Use a pipe cleaner as the handle by attaching it to the middle of the plate. Display your umbrella at home and share it with your family.

  3. Story Time with Umbrellas: Gather your favorite stuffed animals and tell them a story about a rainy day adventure with umbrellas. Use your drawn or crafted umbrella as a prop. Think about where the adventure takes place and what happens when it starts to rain. How do the umbrellas help the characters in your story?
