How to Draw Fireflies in a Jar

Let’s have some fun drawing fireflies in a jar! Get your markers and paper ready, and let’s begin this creative adventure!

Step 1: Drawing the Jar

First, we’ll draw the lid of the jar. Make an oval shape at the top of your paper. It should look like a circle that got a little squished.

Next, draw two straight lines going down from each side of the lid. These lines will be the sides of your jar.

To finish the lid, draw a curve at the bottom that looks like the top. This will make the jar look like it’s popping out of the paper!

Step 2: Shaping the Jar

Now, let’s draw the sides of the jar. Start from the inside of the lid and draw a gentle curve that goes out and then down. Do the same on the other side so it looks the same.

For the bottom of the jar, draw a wide curve that looks a bit squished, just like the top. Now your jar is ready!

Step 3: Adding Fireflies

Time to add some fireflies! Start by drawing an oval shape at the bottom of the jar. This is the glowing part of the firefly.

Above the oval, draw a small shape like a jellybean. This will be the firefly’s head.

Now, add two wings on each side of the firefly. One wing should go out, and the other should curve underneath. Do this on both sides to make it look even. Don’t forget to draw two tiny antennas on top of the head!

Step 4: Drawing More Fireflies

Once you’ve drawn one firefly, you can add more! Draw more fireflies inside the jar and even some flying outside to make it look lively.

Step 5: Coloring Your Artwork

Now it’s time to color your drawing! Color the glowing part of the fireflies yellow. You can color the jar blue and the lid gray, or choose any colors you like.

For a special touch, you can cut out your drawing and glue it onto a black piece of paper. This will make the fireflies look like they’re glowing in the dark!

Conclusion

We hope you had fun drawing fireflies in a jar! It’s a simple and creative project that lets your imagination shine. Share your artwork with your friends and family. Happy drawing!

  • Have you ever seen a firefly in real life? What did it look like, and how did it make you feel?
  • If you could catch any magical creature in a jar, what would it be and why?
  • What colors would you choose for your fireflies and jar, and why do those colors make your drawing special?
  1. Firefly Observation Walk: Take a walk in your backyard or a nearby park during the evening with an adult. Look for real fireflies and observe how they move and glow. Can you count how many you see? Try to notice the patterns in their glowing. Discuss with your adult companion why you think fireflies glow and how it helps them.

  2. DIY Firefly Jar Craft: Create your own glowing firefly jar using a small jar, some glow-in-the-dark paint, and a paintbrush. With an adult’s help, paint small dots inside the jar to mimic fireflies. Once it’s dry, take it to a dark room and watch it glow! Talk about how this is similar to the fireflies you drew and how it differs from real fireflies.

  3. Story Time with Fireflies: Imagine a story about a firefly that lives in your jar. What adventures does it have? Write a short story or draw a comic strip about its journey. Share your story with your classmates or family and discuss what makes fireflies special and how they might feel living in a jar.
