Let’s learn how to draw Joy, a happy character from Pixar’s Inside Out. Get your markers and paper ready, and let’s have some fun drawing together!
Before we start, make sure you have your drawing tools. This is meant to be fun, so don’t worry if it’s a little tricky. If you get stuck, take a break and remember that practice helps you get better!
Draw the Eyes: Start by drawing a big oval in the middle of your paper for Joy’s first eye. Inside the oval, draw an upside-down “U” and fill it in for her pupil.
Add the Second Eye: Draw a flat line for the bottom of the second eye, then another oval above it. Add the pupil just like the first eye.
Nose and Smile: Draw a sideways upside-down “U” between the eyes for her nose. For her smile, draw a curved line that goes up on one side, and add a small line for her cheek to show her happy expression.
Outline the Face: Draw the outline of her face, starting above one eye, going around her mouth, and back up to the other side.
Sketch the Hair: Draw a “W” shape above her eyes for the front of her hair. Add little spikes around the top and sides of her head for texture.
Complete the Hair: Draw the outer line of her hair with a spiky design, connecting it back down to her neck.
Neck and Shoulders: Draw two lines from her head for the neck, then make a “U” shape for her dress.
Dress Shape: From the shoulders, draw a curvy line that goes out and back in to form her dress.
Arms and Hands: Draw lines from the shoulders for her arms, curving back to her waist. Add small bumps at the end for her hands.
Legs and Feet: Draw two lines down from the dress for her legs, making one a bit longer. Finish with a “V” shape at the bottom for her feet.
Waist and Design: Draw a line across her waist and add a wavy line at the bottom of her dress for detail.
Final Touches: Add any extra details you like, such as patterns on her dress.
Skin Tone: Color Joy’s skin with a light peach or pale orange. Use a darker peach for shading around her cheeks and under her chin.
Hair Color: Use light blue for her hair and a darker blue for shading.
Dress Color: Color her dress light green, adding shading with a darker green for depth.
Final Design: Use pale blue to create a sunburst design on her dress, drawing lines that spread outwards.
Great job! You’ve drawn Joy from Inside Out. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun. Your drawing doesn’t have to be perfect; just enjoy creating and expressing yourself. Happy drawing!
Joyful Expressions: Look in the mirror and try making different happy faces like Joy. Notice how your eyes, mouth, and cheeks move. Draw a picture of yourself with your happiest expression. Share your drawing with a friend or family member and ask them to guess what emotion you’re showing.
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around your home or classroom to find objects that match the colors used in Joy’s drawing, such as light blue, green, and peach. Make a list or take pictures of the items you find. Discuss with your classmates or family why you think these colors make Joy look happy and cheerful.
Story Time with Joy: Imagine a day in the life of Joy. Write a short story or draw a comic strip about what Joy might do to spread happiness. Think about places she might visit or activities she might enjoy. Share your story or comic with the class and talk about how you can bring joy to others in your own life.
