The lesson concluded with a fun video showcasing Sandy in action, encouraging kids to keep practicing their drawing skills for future sessions.
  1. What did Brielle draw, and what colors did she use?
  2. Can you tell me how to draw Sandy the dingo?
  3. What did you like most about the drawings we saw today?

Welcome to Circle Time with Caroline and Sophie!

Hello, friends! Welcome to Circle Time. I’m Caroline from the Khan Academy Kids team, and I’m here with my friend, Sophie. Today, we’re going to have a fun and creative time together. We’re going to do some drawing!

Show-and-Tell: Amazing Drawings from Our Friends

We’ve received some fantastic drawings from our friends. Let’s take a look at them!

First, we have a drawing of Peck the bird by Brielle. Peck looks amazing with all the different colors like teal, yellow, and orange. Brielle even wrote her name next to Peck. Great job, Brielle!

Next, we have a drawing from Finley. She drew Kodi and Peck. Finley did a wonderful job capturing Kodi’s expressive eyes and ears. She even recorded a message for us, thanking us for teaching her how to draw. Thank you, Finley!

We also have another drawing of Kodi, complete with a butterfly friend. This drawing shows Kodi with her hands joined at the bottom, just like she often does. It’s such a nice drawing!

Meet Kim, the Animator

Now, let’s meet our friend Kim. She’s an animator, which means she draws characters and makes them move. Today, Kim is going to show us how to draw Sandy the dingo, one of our favorite Khan Academy Kids characters.

Let’s Draw Sandy the Dingo!

To draw Sandy, you’ll need a piece of paper, a black marker, and some colors: yellow, dark yellow or orange, and pink. Sandy has a big smile, pointy ears, and a tail. Let’s get started!

First, we’ll draw the shape of Sandy’s head, which flares outward like a rolling hill. Then, we’ll add her big, pointy ears. Next, we’ll draw her snout, which holds her nose and mouth. Don’t forget to add her upside-down triangle nose and her beautiful eyes with dark eyelashes.

Now, let’s add some color. Use the darker yellow or peach for the shapes on her fur, and a bright pink for the inside of her ears. Finally, color the rest of Sandy in yellow. And there you have it, our Sandy is finished!

See Sandy in Action

Before we go, let’s watch a video of Sandy in action. Kim, our animator, makes Sandy move. In the video, Sandy talks about squares and shows us how they look. It’s so much fun to see Sandy come to life!

Goodbye for Now!

Thank you for joining us today. We hope you had fun drawing with us. Keep practicing, and maybe you can show us your drawings next time. Goodbye from Caroline, Sophie, and the Khan Academy Kids team!

  • What was your favorite part of drawing Sandy the Dingo, and why did you like it? Can you think of another animal you would like to draw?
  • Have you ever drawn something that made you feel proud, like Brielle and Finley did? What was it, and what did you enjoy about creating it?
  • Kim is an animator who makes characters move. If you could animate any character, who would it be and what would they do?
  1. Create Your Own Character: Use your imagination to create a new character, just like Sandy the dingo. Think about what your character might look like, what colors they would be, and what kind of personality they might have. Draw your character on a piece of paper and give them a name. Share your drawing with a friend or family member and tell them all about your character’s adventures.

  2. Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around your home or outside. Look for objects that match the colors you used to draw Sandy the dingo: yellow, dark yellow or orange, and pink. Make a list or take pictures of the items you find. Discuss with a parent or guardian why you think these colors are used for different objects and what feelings they might represent.

  3. Story Time with Sandy: Imagine a day in the life of Sandy the dingo. What does she do when she wakes up? Who are her friends? What adventures does she go on? Write a short story or draw a series of pictures that tell the story of Sandy’s day. Share your story with your class or family and see if they can come up with their own stories about Sandy.
