Hello, friends! How are you today? Did you have fun at school? I hope you got to play outside a lot! Now, let’s get cozy and read a story together. Today, we have a special book called “I Am Lupe” by Sah Aosiatola and Yani Austina. Let’s begin!
This is Lupe. Lupe is unique and special. She has curly black hair like her dad and deep brown eyes like her mom. Her skin shines in the sun because of the coconut oil her mom uses. Lupe was born in a magical place surrounded by islands, where the sun wakes up first every day!
At school, kids ask Lupe lots of questions like, “Where are you from?” Lupe isn’t sure how to answer, so she asks her mom. While helping her mom cook, Lupe asks, “What am I?” Her mom smiles warmly and says, “Lupe, we are all different, and that’s what makes us special.”
Lupe’s mom tells her all the wonderful things she is:
Her mom whispers, “You are enough.” Lupe feels happy and loved.
When Lupe goes to bed, she remembers all the things her mom said. She knows she is special just the way she is. Next time someone asks her, “What are you?” she will proudly say, “I am Lupe.”
Remember, you are special too! Celebrate what makes you different and be proud of who you are!
Now, let’s read “I Wish You Happiness” by Michael Wong and Batash Philly. This book is full of wonderful wishes just for you!
Here are some special wishes:
Most of all, we wish you happiness!
Thank you for reading with us today! We hope you enjoyed the stories. Remember to always be proud of who you are and spread happiness wherever you go. See you next time! Bye-bye!
Activity: Create Your Own “I Am” Book
Just like Lupe, you are special and unique! Let’s make a little book about you. Take some paper and fold it to make a small book. On each page, draw a picture of yourself and write something special about you. For example, “I am a good friend,” or “I love to dance.” Share your book with your family and friends!
Activity: Special Treasure Hunt
Go on a treasure hunt around your home or classroom to find things that are special to you. It could be a favorite toy, a picture, or a special rock. Once you find your treasures, share with a friend or family member why each item is special to you. Remember, just like Lupe, these things make you unique!
Question: What Makes You Special?
Think about what makes you special. Is it your kindness, your smile, or something you love to do? Share with the class or your family what makes you unique and why you are proud of it. Remember, everyone is special in their own way, just like Lupe!
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. What is happening with you today? How was school? Did you learn anything fun or new? I hope you’ve had lots of time playing outside.
Well, let’s settle down and read a book, shall we? Today we have “I Am Lupe” by Sah Aosiatola and Yani Austina. Let’s get started!
I am Lupe. My name is Lupe, and there is no one quite like me. I look different from everyone else at school. I have curly black hair just like my dad, and I have deep brown eyes just like my mom. The coconut oil she uses makes my brown skin glisten under the sunlight. Unlike most of the other kids, I wasn’t born here. I was born in a kingdom nestled in the heart of the South Pacific, surrounded by a sea of islands. It’s the first place on Earth to see the sunrise each day.
The other kids always ask questions: “What are you?” “Do you come from here or there?” and I never know how to answer. I think I’ll ask Mom; she’ll know what to say.
When I help Mom cook a favorite meal in the kitchen, I ask her, “What am I?” She looks confused and asks, “What do you mean, Lupe?” I say, “My skin is brown, my hair is so dark and curly. I look different from the other kids at school. What am I?”
Mom looks at me with a warm smile, her eyes filled with stories and wisdom. “Lupe, we can’t all be the same. Our differences make us who we are, and you are many wonderful things.”
“Like what, Mom? Tell me, please!”
“You are a daughter, you are a big sister.”
“I love being a big sister!”
“You are a friend, you are kind.”
“I love to help others!”
“You are fearless, you are funny.”
“I love to laugh!”
“You are brave, you are smart.”
“I love to read!”
“You are special, you’re beautiful.”
Mom can see all the way into my heart. She leans down and whispers in my ear, “You are enough.”
As Mom and Dad help me get ready for bed, I ask, “Remember all those things you told me earlier, Mom? Are they what I am?”
“Those are all the things that make up who you are. We’re all different, and no one is the same,” says Mom.
“And there is no one else in the world like you,” says Dad.
The next time anyone asks me what I am, I’ll tell them that I am Lupe.
And that was “I Am Lupe.” That was pretty sweet! You should always celebrate your differences and be proud of who you are because you’re so special. Always know that!

Now, let’s get started with “I Wish You Happiness” by Michael Wong and Batash Philly.
I wish you happiness. I wish you dreams and aspirations to spread your wings and reach for the stars. I wish you courage and strength, for the magic begins at the end of your comfort zone. I wish you imagination and creativity, for the world is a blank canvas to paint your masterpiece.
I wish you adventure and curiosity to go where there is no path and leave a trail. I wish you health and well-being, for they are worth more than all the riches in the world. I wish you peace and tranquility to listen to the birds and gaze at the stars.
I wish you knowledge and wisdom, for they are the foundations of a successful life. I wish you grit and resilience to never give up. I wish you success and prosperity to trust yourself and your ability to succeed.
I wish you luck and opportunity, for the more you try, the luckier you get. I wish you faith and hope to believe everything will be alright. I wish you family and friendships, for they are life’s greatest sources of happiness.
I wish you joy and laughter, to laugh long and loud until you gasp for breath. I wish you kindness and generosity, for no act of kindness is ever wasted, no matter how small. I wish you love and affection to fill your beautiful heart with an ocean of joy.
I wish you all those wonderful things, but most of all, I wish you happiness.
I hope you enjoyed “I Wish You Happiness.” If you’d like a copy of this, the links are in the description below. If you enjoyed it, do give us a like and subscribe, and leave us a comment telling us about the things that make you happy.
