Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you today? Did you learn lots of new fun things at school? Have you been reading lots of books by yourself?
Today, we have a special book called “I Am Stronger Than Anxiety” by Elizabeth Cole. Let’s dive into the story!
It was a sunny weekend, and Nick was excited because his dad planned a camping trip. But then, Nick started to worry. He thought, “How will I sleep without my favorite toys? What if the thunder is loud? What if there are monsters in the trees? What if a bee stings me?”
Nick felt nervous. His hands were sweaty, and his mouth was dry. He was feeling anxious, which means he was worried and scared.
On the way to the mountains, Nick didn’t talk much. When they arrived, his dad set up the tent, and Nick went for a walk. He saw a raccoon writing a note on the ground.
“Hey there! What are you writing?” Nick asked. The raccoon said, “I write down my worries and then throw them away. It helps me feel better.”
Nick decided to try it too. He wrote down his worries and tossed the paper away. “I feel so much better now!” he said.
As Nick continued his walk, he heard singing. It was a moose with funny antlers! Nick said, “That’s a beautiful song!”
The moose replied, “I sing when I’m nervous. It helps me feel strong.” The moose taught Nick the song, and they sang together:
“Worries, oh worries, I will beat you all, whether you are big or small. I am fearless and I am brave too. Anxiety, I am stronger than you.”
Next, Nick met a brown bear doing yoga. The bear said, “I’m trying to relax before the school play. I’m scared and don’t want my anxiety to stay.”
Nick joined the bear. They stretched their arms and legs and took deep breaths. After all these activities, Nick felt calm and happy.
Nick told his dad about his day and how he learned to feel better. His dad said, “It’s normal to have worries. Knowing how to deal with them is important.”
Nick was glad to share his thoughts with his dad. The rest of the trip was fun and relaxing.
“I’m stronger than anxiety,” Nick said, “and I won!”
And that was “I Am Stronger Than Anxiety.” Have you ever felt worried about something? It’s okay to feel that way. Just remember to let those worries pass, and you’ll be just fine.
Hope you enjoyed the story! If you liked it, you can find a copy of the book to read anytime. Thanks for joining us, and we’ll see you next time. Bye-bye!
Worry Jar Activity: Create a “Worry Jar” at home. Find a small jar or container and some pieces of paper. Whenever you feel worried or anxious, write down your worry on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the week, with the help of a parent or guardian, take out the worries and talk about them. Discuss how you felt after writing them down and if they still make you feel anxious.
Singing and Dancing: Just like the moose in the story, create your own song or dance that makes you feel strong and happy. Gather your family or friends and perform your song or dance together. Notice how singing and moving can help you feel less worried and more confident.
Nature Walk and Relaxation: Go on a short nature walk with a family member. As you walk, try to notice all the different sounds and sights around you. Practice taking deep breaths, just like Nick and the bear did. Count to four as you breathe in and out. Talk about how being in nature and breathing deeply makes you feel.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you today? Did you learn lots of new fun things at school? Have you been reading lots of books by yourself?
Thank you for joining us today! We have a book called “I Am Stronger Than Anxiety” by Elizabeth Cole. Let’s get started, shall we?
“I Am Stronger Than Anxiety”
It was a sunny weekend, time for some fun. Nick’s dad planned a camping trip with his son. Nick was excited to spend the day with Dad, but then he thought of all the worries he had.
“Dad, how will I sleep without my favorite toys? How will I sleep if the thunder makes noise? What if I see monsters hiding in the trees? What if I get stung by a bee?”
Nick’s hands started to sweat, and his mouth felt dry. He was so upset that he could start to cry. His whole world felt like it was turned inside out. He was feeling anxious, there was no doubt.
During the drive to the mountains, Nick didn’t talk. Dad set up the tent while Nick went for a walk. Still worried, Nick wandered and looked all around. He saw a raccoon writing a note on the ground.
“Hey there! What are you writing?” Little Nick asked. The raccoon replied but kept scribbling fast. “I moved to a new den where the forest ends. I was afraid I wouldn’t make any new friends, so I write down all my worries here on the note and throw away everything that I wrote.”
Nick took some paper and wrote his worries too. He scribbled them fast until he was through. Nick and the raccoon tossed their notes away.
“I feel so much better now!” Nick said. He thanked the raccoon and continued his walk. Then he heard someone singing behind a big rock. It was a moose with funny antlers on his head.
“Hello! That’s a beautiful song,” Little Nick said. The moose replied, “I am nervous before my football game. When I have to go to the dentist, I feel the same. So whenever I’m nervous, I sing this song. It helps me feel better; it helps me feel strong.”
The moose taught Nick the words, and he sang along. They walked through the woods singing this song:
“Worries, oh worries, I will beat you all, whether you are big or small. I am fearless and I am brave too. Anxiety, I am stronger than you.”
Nick left the moose and saw someone new for a chat. It was a brown bear stretching out on a mat. The bear looked funny wearing a toga.
“Come and join me! I’m doing yoga. I’m trying to relax before the school play. I’m scared and don’t want my anxiety to stay.”
Little Nick stood up tall next to the bear. He took a deep breath of fresh forest air. Together they stretched their legs and their backs. They reached their arms to the sky and then stretched their necks.
After all the techniques Little Nick had used, he no longer felt nervous, scared, or confused. Nick told his dad about his unusual day and how all his anxiety had flown away. His dad smiled slightly and then gently said, “It’s normal to have worries bothering your head. Stress and anxiety can bring a lot of trouble. Knowing how to deal with them is the most important thing.”
Nick was glad to share his thoughts with his dad and to tell him about all the worries he had. The rest of his trip was relaxing and fun.
“I’m stronger than anxiety,” Nick said, “and I won!”
And that was “I Am Stronger Than Anxiety.” Are you stronger than anxiety? I’m sure you’ve worried about a lot of small things and a lot of big things too, and that’s okay. Just let it come through and then let it pass, and you’ll be just fine.
