Welcome to Story Time!

Hey kids! Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “I Love My Mommy” by David Bedford and Brenna Vaughn. Are you ready? Let’s go on an adventure!

Little Deer’s Adventure

Once upon a time, Little Deer didn’t want to play in the garden anymore. He wanted to see new things! So, he told his mommy, “I want to explore!”

“Let’s go exploring,” said Mommy Deer. “We can find lots of new things!”

Little Deer was so excited! He ran ahead, and Mommy Deer followed him, keeping a close eye on him.

Exploring the Garden

Little Deer hopped on the grass and crossed some wobbly stones. The stream made a gentle sound as it flowed beside him.

“Be careful not to get your feet wet,” warned Mommy Deer.

“I won’t!” said Little Deer as he wiggled and wobbled across.

He saw red and orange butterflies and squeezed through some thick bushes.

“Don’t get stuck,” said Mommy Deer.

“I won’t!” laughed Little Deer as he skipped out the other side. “Look, Mommy! How many butterflies can you count? One, two, three, four, five! Five butterflies!”

Climbing the Hill

Little Deer found a big hill that went up to the clouds. “Is it too high?” asked Mommy Deer.

“It’s not too high for me!” said Little Deer, climbing up step by step.

At the top, Little Deer shouted, “Yay! I can see forever!”

But then he started to wobble and—wee! He slid down into a pile of leaves.

“Are you okay?” asked Mommy Deer.

“Yes!” giggled Little Deer. “That was fun!”

Finding the Way Home

After a fun day, Little Deer realized he didn’t know the way home. “Mommy, which way is home?” he asked.

Mommy Deer nuzzled his nose. “We’ll find our way back. Let’s remember how we got here.”

Little Deer thought hard and remembered. “We came over the hills!”

He and Mommy Deer climbed back up the hill and saw the way home!

They squeezed through the bushes and counted the butterflies again. “One, two, three, four!”

Little Deer hurried across the wobbly stones. “Don’t get your feet wet!” said Mommy Deer.

“I won’t!” laughed Little Deer.

Home Sweet Home

Little Deer ran as fast as he could and reached home first! “I’m home first!” he cheered.

He saw a little squirrel with its mommy. “I think his mommy brought him lunch. What do you think?”

Little Deer flopped down in the sunshine next to Mommy Deer. “I love exploring!” he said happily.

“And I love my mommy! How much do you love your mommy?”

“I love my mommy lots!” said Little Deer. “Give your mommy a big hug and tell her how much you love her!”

The end.

One morning, Little Deer didn’t want to play in the garden anymore. “I want to see new things,” he told his mommy.

“Then let’s go exploring,” said Mommy Deer, “and see what new things we can find.”

“This way!” said Little Deer excitedly, and he hurried ahead while Mommy followed behind, watching over him.

Little Deer hopped along the grass by the hanging willow tree, then he slowly crossed the wobbly stones, watching the stream as it trickled gently beside him.

“Don’t get your feet wet,” warned Mommy.

“I won’t,” said Little Deer as he wiggled and wobbled.

Little Deer counted red and orange butterflies, then squeezed through thick, tangly bushes.

“Don’t get stuck,” warned Mommy.

“I won’t!” called Little Deer as he skipped out the other side. “Hurry up, Mommy!” he called. “There’s lots more to see! Look at these butterflies! How many butterflies can you count? One, two, three, four, five! Five butterflies!”

“And what’s this? Is it a little rat, or a chipmunk, or maybe a squirrel? What is he eating?”

“Look!” said Little Deer. “A hill that goes up to the clouds! Is it too high?” said his mommy.

“It’s not too high for me,” said Little Deer, panting as he climbed step by step all the way to the top.

“Yay! I can see forever!” cried Little Deer, standing tall on his tiptoes. His mommy stood beside him, but Little Deer was beginning to wobble again, and suddenly—

“Wee!” cried Little Deer as he skidded and slid, landing with a swoosh in a pile of fallen leaves.

“Are you okay, Little Deer?” asked Mommy.

“Yes!” giggled Little Deer. “I am!”

Little Deer sat in the middle with his mommy, watching the bees buzzing in the warm sun.

“Don’t you just love sunny days?”

Suddenly, Little Deer sat up. “Mommy,” he said, “which way is home?” He looked all around him.

“I’ve lost my way!”

Mommy Deer nuzzled Little Deer’s nose. “We’ll soon find our way back,” she said soothingly. “We’ll just have to remember how we got here.”

Little Deer thought and thought. At last, he began to remember.

“We came over the hills!” cried Little Deer, and he scampered back to the hill that went up to the clouds.

“Mommy Deer, help me climb quickly to the top!”

“Yummy!” cried Little Deer. “I can see the way from here!”

Little Deer and his mommy skidded down the other side of the hill to find out what came next.

They squeezed through the tangly bushes. “This way!” told his mommy, and he scurried back through the hole he made, his little tail wagging.

Mommy Deer gave him a helping nudge. “Which way now?” said Little Deer’s mommy.

When they were on the other side, Little Deer saw the red and orange butterflies and heard the tinkling sound of a stream.

“How many butterflies? One, two, three, four!”

The wobbly stones cheered Little Deer as he hurried across the stream.

“Don’t get your feet wet!” Mommy warned.

“I won’t!” laughed Mommy Deer. “But who’s going to be home first?”

Little Deer knew the way from here. He ran as fast as his little legs would take him along the grass by the wobbly tree until—

“I’m home first!” said Little Deer as he jumped all around his little garden.

“Oh, look at this little squirrel! And he is with his mommy! I think his mommy brought him lunch. What do you think?”

Little Deer flopped down in the sunshine beside Mommy.

“I love exploring!” said Little Deer happily.

“And I love my mommy! How much do you love your mommy?”

“I love my mommy lots! And my boys love me lots! Give your mommy a big hug and tell her how much you love her.”
