Welcome to Story Time!

Hi there! Today, we’re going to have some fun with a story called “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies.” It’s written by Laura Numeroff and has beautiful pictures by Felicia Bond. Let’s see what happens when a little mouse goes on an adventure!

A Trip to the Movies

Imagine you take a cute little mouse to the movies. Guess what? He’ll ask you for some popcorn! Yum! But this mouse is very creative. He’ll want to string the popcorn together like a necklace. Then, he’ll want to hang it on a Christmas tree. But oh no! There are no Christmas trees at the movie theater!

Building a Snowman

On the way home, the mouse sees a snowman in someone’s yard. He’ll want to make one too! To make a snowman, he’ll need a carrot for the nose. So, you’ll have to go to the store to get one. This mouse sure keeps you busy!

Fun in the Snow

After making the snowman, the mouse will want to build a fort and have a snowball fight. Playing outside is so much fun! But soon, the mouse will get cold and want to go inside. He’ll ask for a cozy blanket to warm up.

Christmas Carols and Crafts

Once he’s all snuggled up, the mouse will want to listen to Christmas carols. He might even sing along! The songs will remind him of the Christmas tree, and he’ll want to make some ornaments. You’ll need to get paper, glue, and maybe some glitter too. It might get a little messy, but that’s okay!

Back to the Beginning

After decorating the tree, the mouse will notice something is missing—his popcorn string! He’ll want to make another one. And guess what? He’ll ask you for more popcorn. When you give him the popcorn, he’ll want to go to the movies again. Oh, what a silly mouse!

See You Next Time!

Thanks for joining us for this fun story! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. See you next time for more exciting adventures!

  • What would you do if you had a little mouse as a friend? Can you think of some fun activities you might do together?
  • Have you ever built a snowman or had a snowball fight? What was your favorite part about playing in the snow?
  • If you could make a special ornament for a Christmas tree, what would it look like? What materials would you use to make it?
  1. Popcorn Necklace Craft: Just like the mouse in the story, let’s make our own popcorn necklaces! You will need some popcorn and a piece of string. Carefully thread the popcorn onto the string to create a necklace. Once you’re done, wear it proudly or hang it up as a decoration. While making your necklace, think about why the mouse wanted to make one. What other things can you use to make a necklace?

  2. Snowman Building Challenge: If you have snow outside, try building your own snowman! If not, you can use playdough or clay to create a mini snowman indoors. Don’t forget to find a small object for the nose, just like the mouse needed a carrot. What other items can you use to decorate your snowman? Share your snowman with your family and tell them about the mouse’s adventure.

  3. Sing and Create: Listen to some Christmas carols with your family. After listening, use paper, glue, and crayons to create your own Christmas ornament. You can add glitter if you like, just like the mouse wanted to. Why do you think the mouse wanted to make ornaments? Can you think of other decorations you can make for a tree?

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hi, I’m Ryan Lagott and I’m Craig Tovah. Welcome to Story Time with Ryan Lagarde and Craig Toby. Today’s book is “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies” by Laura Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond.

Let’s get started!

If you take a mouse to the movies, he’ll ask you for some popcorn. When you give him the popcorn, he’ll want to string it all together. Then he’ll want to hang it on a Christmas tree. Well, tough break, mouse, because we’re at a movie theater—no Christmas trees here!

You’ll have to buy him one on the way home. He’ll see a snowman in your neighbor’s yard and want to make one of his own. Then he’ll need a carrot for a nose. So guess what? You’ll have to go to the store and get some.

This mouse is walking all over us! When he’s all finished, he’ll decide to build a fort. He’ll ask you to help him, then he’ll want to make some snowballs and have a snowball fight. Playing outside will make him cold, so he’ll want to go inside and curl up on the couch. He’ll ask you for a blanket.

Once he’s nice and cozy, he’ll want to listen to Christmas carols. You’ll have to find some on the radio. Good luck with that! He’ll probably sing along. The carols will remind him of his Christmas tree, so he’ll want to make ornaments. You’ll get him some paper and glue.

He’ll ask you for glitter. Okay, that might be a bit messy! When the ornaments are done, he’ll hang them all up. Then he’ll stand back to look at the tree.

What a great sight!

Oh, wait—he’ll notice his popcorn string is missing, so he’ll want to make another one. He’ll ask you for some popcorn. And chances are, when you give him the popcorn, he’ll want you to take him to the movies again.

Absolutely not! We’re not going back to the movies—that’s where this all began!

Oh, can’t wait to see what happens next!

Well, thanks for watching Story Time with Ryan Lagod and Craig Toby. We’ll see you next time!
