Welcome to Storytime!

Hi there, friends! Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “Iris and Isaac” by Katherine Rer. Are you ready to find out what happens in the story? Let’s go!

The Story of Iris and Isaac

Once upon a time, there were two bears named Iris and Isaac. They were having a little trouble being friends. Iris made a nest, but it was too small for both of them. Isaac tried to fit in, but they ended up squishing the nest flat! Iris walked away feeling grumpy, and Isaac stomped away feeling a little grumpy too.

Exploring the Snowy World

As Iris walked across the smooth, white snow, she saw some birds flying high in the sky. “Look, it’s the ducks!” she said, but Isaac wasn’t there to see them with her.

Meanwhile, Isaac was walking along when he saw two arctic foxes playing on the shiny ice. “That looks like fun,” he thought, but he was alone.

Discovering New Wonders

Iris found a big, echoey ice cave. “Oh wow, Isaac would love this,” she thought, wishing he was there to see it too. At the same time, Isaac saw the beautiful northern lights dancing in the sky. “I wish Iris was here to see them,” he thought.

Back Together Again

Then, Isaac saw something wonderful! He and Iris met up again and felt happy. They worked together to make a perfect snow nest, just right for both of them. They snuggled up inside, feeling cozy and warm.

  • What do you think Iris and Isaac learned about friendship by the end of the story? Can you think of a time when you had to work together with a friend to solve a problem?
  • Imagine you are walking in the snow like Iris and Isaac. What animals or exciting things would you like to see on your adventure?
  • If you could build a special place to share with a friend, like Iris and Isaac’s snow nest, what would it look like? What would you do there together?
  1. Build a Snow Nest: Just like Iris and Isaac, let’s create our own nests! Use pillows, blankets, or even building blocks to make a cozy nest. Can you make it big enough for you and a friend? Think about how you can work together to make it comfortable for both of you. After building, talk about how it felt to work together and what you learned about sharing and cooperation.

  2. Animal Adventure Walk: Go on a walk with a family member or friend and look for animals or signs of animals, just like Iris and Isaac did. Can you spot any birds, squirrels, or even insects? What do you think these animals are doing? Share your discoveries with each other and talk about how animals might feel when they are alone or with friends.

  3. Draw Your Favorite Part: Think about your favorite part of the story. Was it when Iris found the ice cave, or when Isaac saw the northern lights? Draw a picture of that scene and share it with your class or family. Explain why it was your favorite and how it made you feel. This will help you remember the story and understand the feelings of the characters better.

Hey there, kids! Welcome to Storytime Family. Today, we are going to read “Iris and Isaac” by Katherine Rer. Can you guess what “Iris and Isaac” is about? Shall we find out?

“Iris and Isaac”

Iris and Isaac were not friends anymore. Iris had made a nest, but it was too small for them both. Isaac tried to wriggle and nudge his way in, while Iris pushed back until they had squashed the nest flat. Iris walked away in a big bear huff, and Isaac stomped away in a not quite so big bear huff too.

Iris was grumpily walking across the smooth snow when she saw a flock of birds soaring high in the sky. “Look, it’s the ducks!” she gasped, but Isaac was not there to see them.

Isaac was stomping along when he spotted two arctic foxes playing together on the sparkly ice. “That looks like fun,” he thought, and sighed as he stomped off once more.

Iris was trudging slowly when she found a huge echoey ice cave. “Oh wow, Isaac would love this,” she thought, wishing he was there. Meanwhile, Isaac was wandering sadly when he saw the northern lights flicker and swirl. “I wish she was here to see them too,” he thought.

Then, as he wandered farther, Isaac saw the most wonderful thing of all.

[Applause]

Iris and Isaac were happy once more! They gently shuffled and nudged and patted until they had made the perfect snow nest to crawl up inside together. They looked so cozy, don’t they?

The end.
