Hello, friends! Today, we are going to read a fun story called “It’s a George Thing” by David Bedford and Russell Julian. Are you ready? Let’s go!
George has two best friends named Peachy and Moon. Do you have best friends too? Every morning, George visits Peachy to play a game called big ball. Peachy loves playing big ball, and George is really good at it! What do you like to play?
In the afternoon, George goes to Moon’s house to play with rocks. Moon loves playing with rocks, but George finds it a bit tricky. What do you like to do for fun?
One day, while walking home, George hears a new sound. It’s coming from Priscilla’s riverboat. Priscilla is playing the guitar and singing. George starts dancing to the music!
“Wow, you’re a great dancer!” says Priscilla. “Join my show tonight at seven o’clock!” George is excited but needs to hurry to get ready.
On his way to the show, George sees Peachy looking for him. He hides because he’s worried his friends won’t understand his new dance. When George arrives at the show, he sees lots of animals from the jungle. George feels nervous, but when Priscilla sings, he starts dancing and having fun!
Suddenly, George stops. Everyone is watching him, and he feels scared. Have you ever felt nervous like that?
Just then, Peachy and Moon join George on stage. “I’m not very good at this,” says Peachy. “I don’t understand it,” says Moon. George smiles and says, “It’s a George thing!” He shows his friends how to dance, and they all have fun together.
After that, George still plays big ball with Peachy and rocks with Moon. But sometimes, they all get together to do a “George thing” and dance!
What’s your special thing? Maybe you like to dance, draw, or play games. Whatever it is, it’s your special thing!
Try this fun dance: Scratch your head, lift your chest, tickle your chin, reach for the sky, take a silly walk, and spread your wings. Have fun!
The end. We hope you enjoyed “It’s a George Thing.” Tell us about your special thing! Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more stories. See you next time!
Dance Like George: Let’s create our own dance moves just like George! Gather in a circle and take turns showing a dance move. It can be anything you like, such as a jump, a spin, or a funny walk. After everyone has shown their move, try putting them all together to make a fun dance routine. How does it feel to dance with your friends?
Friendship Art: Draw a picture of you and your best friends doing something you love. It could be playing a game, dancing, or any activity you enjoy together. Use lots of colors and details to show how special your friendship is. Share your drawing with the class and talk about why you chose that activity.
Sound Exploration: Just like George discovered music on Priscilla’s riverboat, let’s explore sounds around us. Close your eyes and listen carefully. What sounds do you hear? Is it a bird chirping, leaves rustling, or maybe a car passing by? Afterward, share what you heard with the class. How do these sounds make you feel?
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hi boys and girls! Welcome to the Storytime Family. Today, we have “It’s a George Thing” by David Bedford and Russell Julian.
George had two best friends, Peachy and Moon. Who are your best friends? Every morning, George went to Peachy’s house to play big ball. Playing big ball was a Peachy thing, and it was the thing that Peachy liked best. George was very good at it. What’s the thing that you like best?
Every afternoon, George went to Moon’s house to play rocks. Playing rocks was a Moon thing, and it was the thing that Moon liked best. George didn’t understand it. What’s your thing?
One day, when George was walking home from Moon’s house, he heard a new sound coming from Priscilla’s riverboat. Priscilla was playing a guitar, and when she began singing, George did this.
“You’re a really good dancer,” George said. “I’m putting you in my show tonight. It’s at seven o’clock. Don’t be late!”
George had to hurry to get ready, but it took ages to find something to wear. Then he checked the time. “I’m late!” yelled George.
On his way to the show, George saw Peachy looking for him, so he hid where they would never look. He didn’t think his friends would understand.
When George finally arrived at the show, he had a surprise: it looked like the whole jungle was there! George felt nervous, but when Priscilla began to sing, George did this and this and this. George was having so much fun!
But then, George froze. Everyone was staring at him. He had never felt so alone. Priscilla was still singing, but George could not move. Have you ever felt that way before? You get so nervous that you freeze up or maybe you start sweating?
Then suddenly, there was someone beside him and another someone. It was Peachy and Moon. “I’m not very good at this,” puffed Peachy. “I don’t understand it,” said Moon. “I don’t even know what it is.”
George grinned. “It’s a George thing,” he said, and he showed his friends how to do it. From then on, George still went to Peachy’s house to do Peachy things, and he still went to Moon’s house to do Moon things. But sometimes, they all got together to do a George thing.
What’s your thing? Start with a scratch, push your chest up high, tickle your chin, now reach for the sky, take a silly walk, do your own thing, say bye-bye, now spread your wings.
The end. Hope you liked “It’s a George Thing.” How about you tell us about your thing in the comment section? Don’t forget to give us a like and subscribe, and tap on the notification bell for the next story. If you’d like to buy a copy of this book, click on the link below.
