Hello there! Today, we’re going to talk about a fun story called “Just SNOW Already!” written and illustrated by Howard McWilliam. Let’s dive into the snowy adventure!
This morning, Dad said it might snow today. I was so excited! I looked outside, but there was no snow yet. At breakfast, everything reminded me of snow. The milk and sugar looked like snowflakes, and I couldn’t stop thinking about all the fun I could have if it snowed. I told my sister about it, but she wasn’t as excited as I was. Oh well, her loss! I was ready for some snowy fun!
I kept checking outside, hoping to see snowflakes falling. But nothing was happening. I got ready super fast, thinking maybe it would start snowing soon. But still, no snow. I asked Mom if she could make it snow, but she said we just had to wait and see. Waiting is so boring! I imagined building a snowman, sledding, and making snow angels. But still, no snow!
Dad said time flies when you’re having fun, so I tried to keep busy. But nothing is as fun as snow! It felt like hours had passed. I checked the window again, but still no snow. I started to worry. What if it never snowed again? I imagined building mud men and making leaf angels instead. I really wanted it to snow!
While I was having a snack, Mom asked if I had checked outside lately. I told her it was no use, but she suggested I take one more look. As I walked to the window, something magical happened. A snowflake fluttered down! Could it be? Yes, it was snowing! I was so happy! Nothing is as fun as snow!
This story reminds me of the snow days I used to have when I was a kid. Snow days are special because you get to play outside, build snowmen, and go sledding. Even when you grow up, snow is still exciting. Reading books is like having a best friend with you all the time. No matter where you are, a book can be your friend and keep you company.
Thank you for joining us for this snowy adventure! Remember to check out more stories and keep reading. Books are your friends for life, and they can take you on amazing adventures anytime you want!
Snowflake Observation: Even if it’s not snowing outside, you can create your own snowflakes! Cut out paper snowflakes and hang them around your room. Observe how each snowflake is unique, just like real ones. Discuss with your friends or family why you think each snowflake is different. Can you imagine what it would be like if all snowflakes were the same?
Weather Watcher: Become a weather watcher for a week! Each day, look outside and note down the weather. Is it sunny, rainy, or cloudy? Draw a picture of what you see. If it snows, draw the snowflakes and describe how they make you feel. Share your weather diary with your class and see how the weather changes over the week.
Snow Day Imagination: Imagine you wake up to a snowy day. What would you do first? Write a short story or draw a picture about your perfect snow day. Would you build a snowman, go sledding, or make snow angels? Share your story or drawing with your classmates and see what fun activities they would do on a snowy day.

[Storyline Online intro] Welcome to Storyline Online, brought to you by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. I’m Julianna Margulies, and today, I’m going to read to you “Just SNOW Already!” written and illustrated by Howard McWilliam.
This morning, Dad said it might snow today. I checked outside. It was cold, but it wasn’t snowing yet. At breakfast, the milk reminded me of snow. The sugar reminded me of snow. All I could think about was snow. I told my sister, “It might snow today! Think of all the fun we could have in the snow!” She wasn’t as excited as I was. Well, her loss! I wasn’t going to miss one second of fun!
I peeked outside. No. Nothing was happening out there. I got ready as fast as I could. Maybe it was snowing now? Nope. Still nothing happening. “Make it snow, Mom,” I said. Mom said she couldn’t make it snow. It would either happen or it wouldn’t. We’d just have to wait and see. But waiting is boring. If it snowed, I could build a snowman, go sledding, and make snow angels. Maybe it was snowing now? Ugh, no. There was still nothing happening out there!
Dad told me time flies when you’re having fun, so I tried to keep busy, but nothing is as fun as snow. It felt like hours had gone by. It must have started snowing by now! I crept up to the window and… absolutely nothing! Arrgh! Why won’t it just snow already? What if it never snows again? I’d have to build mud men, go sledding on the grass, and make leaf angels. I really wish it would snow. It wasn’t fair. I bet it was snowing where other kids lived. My day was ruined.
While I ate a snack, Mom asked if I’d looked outside lately. I told her it was no use. I knew it wasn’t going to snow today. She suggested I take one more peep. As I walked toward the window, something fluttered down. Was I imagining it? Could it be? Might it be? Snow!!! I knew it would snow! I knew it! Nothing is as fun as snow!
I love this book because it reminds me of the snow days I used to have when I was a kid. That feeling when suddenly you don’t have to go to school, and you get to go outside and take your sled. I actually used to try and make money by shoveling people’s driveways. But this book is one of those books where you can read it over and over again because the excitement of snow never leaves. Even when you’re all grown up, you still get excited when it snows. And reading to me is like discovering your best friend every day. No matter where you are in the world, you will always have your friend with you if you have a book. Because you never know when you’re going to get stuck for an hour sitting around – you’ll have your book and you can read. And it’ll be your best friend for life.
