Exploring the Oceans with Jessie and Squeaks

Hi there! I’m Jessie, and this is my friend Squeaks. We both love science, especially when it involves experimenting and learning new things. Today, we’re super excited to share what we’ve been discovering about the five oceans of the world!

The Five Oceans

Did you know there are five main oceans on our planet? They are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean. Each ocean is unique and full of amazing things to learn about.

Our Favorite Ocean Videos

Our friends at YouTube Kids asked us to create a playlist of our favorite ocean videos. It was a tough choice because there’s so much to learn about the oceans! But we picked some videos that are fun, interesting, and helped us learn even more about one of our favorite subjects.

Join the Adventure!

We hope you enjoy these videos as much as we do. They’re a great way to dive into the wonders of the ocean. If there’s something specific you want to learn more about, let us know in the comments below. We’re always excited to explore new topics with you!

Anchors away!

  • What is something new you learned about the oceans from Jessie and Squeaks? Can you share a fun fact about one of the oceans?
  • Have you ever visited the ocean or a beach? What did you see or do there that you found interesting or exciting?
  • If you could explore one of the five oceans, which one would you choose and why? What do you hope to discover there?
  1. Ocean in a Bottle: Create your own mini ocean! Fill a clear plastic bottle halfway with water and add a few drops of blue food coloring. Then, fill the rest of the bottle with vegetable oil. Seal the cap tightly and gently tilt the bottle back and forth. Watch how the “ocean” moves and discuss how the oil and water stay separate, just like different layers in the ocean.

  2. Ocean Animal Hunt: Next time you visit a library or have access to the internet, look for pictures or videos of animals that live in each of the five oceans. Can you find a fish from the Pacific Ocean or a penguin from the Southern Ocean? Draw your favorite ocean animal and share what makes it special.

  3. Ocean Sounds Exploration: Close your eyes and listen to different ocean sounds, like waves crashing or seagulls calling. You can find these sounds online or use a sound app. Imagine you’re at the beach or on a boat. What do you see, smell, and feel? Share your ocean adventure story with a friend or family member.
