In this lesson, Chloe invites children to join her in counting the chicks as they hatch from shiny chicken eggs on the Fun Farm. Through interactive counting, they learn to recognize and tally the number of chicks, ultimately confirming that there are five adorable chicks in total. The lesson emphasizes engagement and reinforces basic counting skills in a fun and playful manner.
  1. How many chicks did we count together?
  2. What do you think happens when the eggs hatch?
  3. Can you show me how to count to five like we did with the chicks?

Welcome to the Fun Farm!

Hello, friend! I’m Chloe, and today we’re going to have a super fun time with my shiny chicken eggs. Are you ready to help me count the little chicks as they hatch? Let’s get started!

Counting Chicks

Look, the first egg is hatching! Here’s one little chick. Now, another egg is cracking open. That’s two chicks! Oh, here comes another one. We have three little chicks now. Wow, another egg is hatching. That makes four chicks. And look, one more chick is joining us. We have five chicks all together!

Let’s Count Again!

Let’s count them one more time to make sure we have all the chicks. Ready? One, two, three, four, five. Yay! We counted five cute little chicks!

Thank you so much for helping me count my little chicks. You did an amazing job! See you next time. Bye-bye!

  • Have you ever seen a real chick or any other baby animal? What was it like, and how did it make you feel?
  • If you could have any animal hatch from an egg, what animal would you choose and why?
  • Can you think of other things in your life that you like to count? Why do you think counting is important?
  1. Egg Carton Counting: Find an empty egg carton and some small objects like pebbles, buttons, or beads. Pretend these are your eggs. Place one object in each section of the carton and practice counting them just like we counted the chicks. Can you count them forwards and backwards? Try adding or taking away some objects and count again. How many do you have now?

  2. Chick Hunt: Draw or print out pictures of chicks and hide them around your home or classroom. Go on a chick hunt and see how many you can find. Each time you find a chick, say the number out loud. Can you find all five chicks? Try hiding them again and let a friend or family member find them too!

  3. Chick Story Time: Create a short story about the chicks you counted. What do you think they do during the day? Where do they go? Draw pictures to go along with your story. Share your story with a friend or family member and count the chicks in your drawings together.
