In today’s lesson, we explored the concept of numbers and counting through engaging stories and characters. We learned about the significance of zero, counted floors with Bernie, chicks with Chloe, turtles with Michael, and celebrated birthdays with Matt, reinforcing our counting skills along the way. The lesson emphasized the joy of learning numbers through fun activities and collaboration.
  1. What does the number zero mean?
  2. Can you count how many chicks Chloe has?
  3. How many turtles did Michael see on his walk?

Welcome to the Fun Learning Adventure!

Hi there! Today, we’re going to have lots of fun learning about numbers and counting. Let’s start with a magical number called zero!

The Magic of Zero

Imagine snowflakes falling from the sky. They are all different and beautiful, but when the sun comes out, they melt away. When there are no snowflakes left, we use the number zero to show that there are none. Zero is a special number that means “nothing” or “none.”

Counting with Bernie

Meet Bernie! He needs to deliver a package to the 20th floor of a tall building. Let’s help him count the floors as he goes up in the elevator:

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty! Hooray! We made it to the 20th floor. Thanks for counting with Bernie!

Chloe’s Little Chicks

Hi, I’m Chloe! I have some shiny eggs, and they are hatching into little chicks. Let’s count them together:

One, two, three, four, five! We have five cute little chicks. Thanks for helping me count!

Michael and the Turtles

Hey there! I’m Michael, and this is my friend Bali. We love to go on walks and see interesting things. Today, we found some turtles. Let’s count them:

One, two, three, four, five turtles! They love to eat flowers. Let’s pick one flower for each turtle. How many flowers do we need? Five, because there are five turtles!

Now, let’s see how many turtles are on the shore and how many are in the water. Three turtles are on the shore, and two are in the water. Which number is bigger? Three is bigger than two!

Birthday Fun with Matt and Friends

Hi, I’m Matt, and today is our birthday! Let’s find the right cake for each of us:

I’m one year old, so my cake has one candle. I’m two, so my cake has two candles. I’m three, so my cake has three candles. I’m four, so my cake has four candles. I’m five, so my cake has five candles. Happy Birthday to us!

Chloe’s Lost Chicks

Oh no! Chloe lost her five little chicks. Let’s help her find them:

One chick behind the bush, two in the grass, three behind the tree, four by the stone, and five in the flower bed. We found all five chicks!

Counting Apples with Toby

Hi, I’m Toby! Let’s count some juicy apples and write the numbers:

One apple, two apples, three apples, four apples, five apples. Great job counting!

Thanks for joining us on this fun learning adventure. See you next time!

  • Can you think of a time when you had to count something, like toys or snacks? How did it feel to count them all?
  • Why do you think the number zero is important when we talk about things we don’t have any of? Can you give an example of when you might use zero?
  • If you could help Bernie, Chloe, or Michael with their counting adventure, which one would you choose and why? What would you like to count with them?
  1. Zero Hunt: Go on a “Zero Hunt” around your home or classroom. Look for places where you can find zero of something. For example, check a fruit bowl and see if there are zero bananas. Discuss with your friends or family why zero is important and how it shows that something is missing or not there.

  2. Counting Adventure: Create a counting adventure with your toys. Line up your toys and count them one by one. Then, pretend some toys go on a journey and count how many are left. Try to use the number zero when all the toys have gone on their adventure. Can you tell a story about where they went?

  3. Number Detective: Be a number detective and find numbers in your environment. Look at clocks, books, or even your favorite cereal box. Write down the numbers you find and try to count up to those numbers. Can you find the number zero anywhere? Share your findings with your classmates or family.

Welcome to Kids Academy!

Snow was falling from the sky, and there were sparkling snowflakes all around. They were all different and beautiful—hundreds and thousands of them! But they melted in the sun and ended up as steam, which disappeared. Now, there are no snowflakes in the sky.

Let’s meet the special number that will help us: the number zero!

Spring is here! The snow and ice melted in the sun. In spring, rain falls from the clouds. Soon, the tiny raindrops end up in lakes. How do we say that there are no raindrops in the sky? The number zero helps us again!

Spring is in the air, and so are the twitters and chatter of birds. The birds flew away. How do we say that there are no birds in the water? The number zero is just what we need because zero represents the absence of a thing. We use all other numbers when we can see some snowflakes, raindrops, birds, or other objects. We use zero when there are no objects at all!

Hey everybody, it’s me, Bernie! I need to deliver this parcel to the 20th floor of this apartment building. If I take the elevator to the top of the building, I can reach the 20th floor really fast. We have to go from the first floor all the way up to the 20th floor. Help me count the floors as I go up so that I won’t miss the right one!

We are on the first floor now. Two! Now we are on the second floor. Three! It’s the third floor. Four! Which floor is that? Right, it’s the fourth floor. Five! The fifth. Six! The sixth. Seven! It’s the seventh floor. Eight! Is this the floor I’m looking for? No, it’s the ninth floor. Great counting, everybody! Ten! To the tenth. Eleven! The eleventh. Well, the 12th floor. Which floor are we on now? Right, it’s the 13th floor. Fourteen! The 14th floor. Fifteen! The 15th. Sixteen! The 16th floor. Maybe this is the 20th floor? No, it’s the 17th. Eighteen! The 18th floor. Nineteen! The 19th. Is this the 20th floor? All right, we did it! We are on the 20th floor, and I can deliver the parcel. Thanks for helping me count the floors! Bye-bye!

Hi there! I’m Chloe, and these are my shiny chicken eggs. Will you help me count the little chicks as the eggs hatch? Here’s one! One chick. Two! Now we have two. Three! There are three little chicks now. Four! Now we have four. Five! That’s five chicks altogether. I’ve got five cute little chicks. Let’s count them again: one, two, three, four, five. Thanks for helping me count my little chicks! Bye-bye!

Hi guys! I’m Michael, and this is my friend Bali. Bali and I love to take walks. During our walks, a lot of interesting things happen. Maybe today something fun will come up too! We need good weather for a walk. There are lots of clouds today; they cover the sun often.

How many colorful dots do I have? It’s hard to count them too! Let’s count these stuffed toys. One! One, two, three, four, five! Wow, they are alive! It’s turtles! They are hungry. Let’s pick a flower for each of them. Turtles love to eat flowers.

Hey, tell us how many flowers do we need to treat the turtles? Five, because there are five turtles: one, two, three, four, five.

Now, let’s solve a problem: how many turtles stay on the shore and how many swim in the water? One, two, three turtles lie in the grass, and two turtles are in the water. Which number is larger? There are more turtles in the grass, so I think number three is larger than number two. Number two is not the smallest number; one is smaller. There’s one frog and there are two turtles. They have more fun than the lonely frog.

The frog wasn’t bored for long; now there’s a whole crowd of frogs here! Right now, there are more frogs than turtles in the stream because there are four frogs and only two turtles. Number four is larger than number two.

And what if we compare all the turtles and all the frogs? Who will be more? There are more turtles—there are five of them—and there are just four frogs. Number five is larger!

It’s time to go home. Tomorrow we’ll bring a new day and new interesting stories!

Hey everybody, I’m Matt, and these are my friends Charlotte, Andy, Zoe, and little Benny. We have our birthday today! What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a sweet cake and a few candles? Oh no, somebody’s mixed up our cakes! Can you find the right cake for each of us?

I’m one year old today, so my cake has one candle on it. Can you see any cakes with one candle? All right, this is my birthday cake! I’m two today, so my birthday cake has how many candles? Where is the cake with two candles? Here it is! I’m three today, so there are how many candles on my cake? Three!

And my cake is… I’m four today! Can you see a cake with four sparkling candles on it? All right, this is my cake! I’m five today, and a cake with five candles is this one! Hooray! We’ve got our birthday cakes, and we’re ready for our birthday party! Everybody shout, “Happy Birthday!”

Hi, I’m Chloe, and I’m in big trouble! I’ve lost my five little chickens. Will you help me find and count my lost chicks? Great! Hmm, I wonder where my chicks could be hiding. Maybe behind those bushes? Great! Count with me!

We found one little chick! See any more chickens? Right, there’s one in the grass—that’s two! Well done! And behind that faraway tree, we’ve got three little chickens now. Great job! Let’s go have a peek behind that big stone—that’s four! And the littlest chick is right in the flower bed—great!

Let’s count again and check. Everybody count with me: one, two, three, four, five! Great job! Bye-bye!

Hi there! I’m Toby. Can you see those sweet, juicy apples? I’m going to count them and write the numbers on the boxes. Do you want to help me count the apples and write the numbers? Great! Now everybody count the apples and say the numbers.

There’s one apple in this box—great! Let’s write the number one here. Now count the apples in this box. We’ve got two apples here—wait! And here’s the number two. There are three apples in this box—good job! Let’s write the number three.

How many apples have we got here? Four! Great! You’re really good at counting apples, and this is the number four. And here we’ve got five apples—fantastic! Let’s write the number five.

Let’s have a look at the boxes again and check our numbers: this is the number one, two, three, four, five. We’ve done a great job together! Bye-bye!
