In this lesson, children embark on an imaginative adventure to the beach, where they encounter various animals such as crabs, sea lions, seagulls, and more. Each animal is introduced with fun facts and encourages kids to mimic their movements, fostering engagement and learning about marine life and wildlife in different environments. The lesson concludes by inviting children to observe these animals during future beach visits or nature shows.
  1. What animal did you like the most at the beach?
  2. Can you show me how to move like a crab or a dolphin?
  3. What sounds do you think the whale makes?

Animals at the Beach

Let’s go on a fun adventure to the beach and meet some amazing animals! Are you ready? Let’s dive in!

Crab

First, we see a crab. Crabs have big claws and they love to scuttle sideways on the sand. Can you pretend to be a crab and scuttle too?

Sea Lion

Next, we meet a sea lion. Sea lions are playful and love to splash in the water. They can even balance a ball on their nose! Can you pretend to be a sea lion and splash around?

Seagull

Look up! It’s a seagull flying high in the sky. Seagulls love to soar above the beach and look for tasty snacks. Can you flap your arms like a seagull and fly?

Sea Turtle

Now, let’s say hello to a sea turtle. Sea turtles have a big shell on their back. They move slowly on land, but in the water, they swim super fast! Can you pretend to swim like a sea turtle?

Fish

In the water, we see lots of colorful fish. Fish swim around the coral reef all day. They live in schools, just like you go to school to learn and play! Can you wiggle like a fish?

Dolphin

Here comes a dolphin! Dolphins are very smart and love to play. They can jump out of the water and spin around. Can you jump and spin like a dolphin?

Animals of the Coral Reef

Octopus

In the coral reef, we find an octopus. Octopuses have eight arms and can change colors. Can you count to eight and pretend to have lots of arms like an octopus?

Shark

Watch out for the shark! Sharks have sharp teeth and are great swimmers. But don’t worry, they just want to swim by. Can you pretend to swim fast like a shark?

Animals of the Deep Ocean

Whale

In the deep ocean, we see a giant whale. Whales are the biggest animals in the ocean. They sing beautiful songs. Can you make a big whale sound?

Animals of the Polar Regions

Polar Bear

In the cold polar regions, we find a polar bear. Polar bears have thick fur to keep them warm. They love to play in the snow. Can you pretend to be a polar bear and stomp in the snow?

Penguin

Last, we see a penguin. Penguins waddle on the ice and slide on their bellies. Can you waddle like a penguin and slide around?

Wasn’t it fun meeting all these animals? Next time you visit the beach or watch a nature show, see how many of these animals you can spot!

  • What is your favorite animal from the beach adventure, and why do you like it the most? Can you think of any other animals that might live at the beach?
  • Have you ever been to the beach or seen any of these animals in real life? What was it like, and what did you notice about them?
  • If you could be any of the animals we talked about, which one would you choose to be and what fun activities would you do as that animal?
  1. Crab Walk Race: Gather your friends or family and have a crab walk race! Find a safe space where you can all scuttle sideways like crabs. See who can reach the finish line first while moving like a crab. Notice how your body feels when you move sideways and think about why crabs might move this way.

  2. Animal Sound Orchestra: Create an orchestra of animal sounds with your friends or classmates. Each person can choose an animal from the beach adventure, like a dolphin, whale, or seagull, and make the sound that animal might make. Take turns being the conductor and lead your orchestra in a fun animal sound concert. How do the sounds change when you make them louder or softer?

  3. Beach Animal Observation: Next time you visit a beach or watch a nature show, bring a notebook and draw or write about the animals you see. Try to spot a crab, seagull, or any other animal from the lesson. What are they doing? How are they moving? Share your observations with your family or friends and discuss why these animals might behave this way.
