Let’s Play and Learn!

Hi there! Are you ready to have some fun and learn new words? Let’s play with toys and learn their names in English and Spanish. Let’s get started!

Toys and Their Names

Look at all these toys! We have a ball, which is “la pelota” in Spanish. There’s a truck, called “el camión.” We also have a car, known as “el coche,” and a train, which is “el tren.”

Let’s see more toys! We have a puzzle, a balloon called “el globo,” and a doll, which is “la muñeca.” There’s also a book, called “el libro,” and many books are “los libros.” We can’t forget the blocks, known as “los bloques,” and an airplane, called “el avión.”

Counting Fun

Let’s count some toys! We have one brown box, “una caja café.” There are two orange blocks, “los bloques.” Look at the seven green books, “los libros verdes.” Can you count three yellow cars? Uno, dos, tres!

How about nine red balloons, “rojos”? Let’s count five blue puzzles, “azules.” There are six purple balls, “pelotas moradas,” and eight pink dolls. Can you find four black trains, “trenes negros”? Wow, there are ten white trucks, “camiones blancos,” but now there are zero white trucks!

Colors and Clothes

Let’s learn colors with clothes! A gray airplane is “gris.” We have a yellow shirt, “una camisa amarilla,” and red shoes, “los zapatos rojos.” Look at the blue pants, “los pantalones azules,” and a pink dress, “rosa.” There are orange socks, “los calcetines naranjas,” and a green hat, “verde.” A purple coat is “un abrigo morado.”

We also have brown boots, “café,” and a black umbrella, “un paraguas negro.” A white skirt is “una falda blanca,” and yellow shorts are “los pantalones cortos amarillos.” Look at the gray sandals, “las sandalias grises.”

Things Around the House

Let’s see what’s in the house! There’s a brown table, “una mesa café,” a blanket called “la manta,” and a pillow, “la almohada.” We have a lamp, “la lámpara,” a pen, “la pluma,” and a pencil, “el lápiz.”

We also have crayons, paper, and a fan, “el ventilador.” Look at the pink chair, “rosa,” and the bed, “la cama.” There’s a blue door, “una puerta azul,” and a window, “la ventana.” Finally, we have an orange couch.

Thank you for playing and learning with me! Goodbye! Adiós!

  1. What is your favorite toy from the list, and can you say its name in both English and Spanish? Why do you like it?
  2. Can you find something in your house that matches one of the colors we learned? What is it, and what color is it in Spanish?
  3. Think about a time you played with a friend or family member. What toys did you play with, and can you name them in Spanish?
  1. Toy Matching Game: Gather a collection of toys or pictures of toys mentioned in the lesson, such as a ball, truck, car, and train. Ask the children to match each toy with its Spanish name. For example, they can place the ball next to a card that says “la pelota.” Encourage them to say the names out loud in both English and Spanish. This activity helps reinforce vocabulary and pronunciation.

  2. Color Hunt: Organize a color scavenger hunt around the classroom or at home. Provide the children with a list of colors in both English and Spanish, such as “red/rojo” and “blue/azul.” Ask them to find objects that match each color and bring them back to the group. Once they have collected the items, discuss the colors and names of the objects in both languages. This activity enhances their understanding of colors and their ability to identify them in their environment.

  3. Counting and Sorting: Use blocks or other small toys to practice counting and sorting. Ask the children to count a specific number of toys in English and Spanish, such as “three yellow cars” or “tres coches amarillos.” Then, have them sort the toys by color or type, reinforcing the vocabulary they have learned. This hands-on activity helps with number recognition and categorization skills.
